Israel’s President Reuven Rivlin has sent letters to the UK’s Prince Charles and its Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and Monaco’s Prince Albert II and Minister of State Serge Telle as it emerged that the leaders had tested positive for the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).

In the letters, sent Sunday, Rivlin told the leaders that “in our daily prayers, we say three times a day that the Almighty is ‘a faithful and merciful healer – Rofe Ne’eman Ve’rachaman Ata’. It seems to me that this prayer has a special significance in these days for peoples.”

Rivlin further wrote that international cooperation was necessary to curb the spread of the virus and vowed that Israel would work together with the global community in finding a solution to ending the pandemic.

“The virus we are facing makes no distinctions for national borders, and international cooperation is vital in fighting it. Although many of us are now in isolation, drawing on our reserves of patience and forbearance, the world has become a smaller place and we gain strength from each other. Together, we will overcome this difficult time,” Rivlin wrote, adding that Covid-19 may be “the greatest challenge of our generation,” and that Israel was “committed to making our fullest contribution to face and defeat it.”

Israel has seen over 3,800 people test positive for the novel Coronavirus. 14 Israelis had died of the virus as of Sunday. The UK has 17,000 cases and over 1,000 deaths, while one person has died in Monaco and 43 people have contracted the disease.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday night spoke with Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte and “expressed sorrow and condolences on behalf of the Government of Israel for the major disaster striking Italy,” the Prime Minister’s office stated.

Italy has become the epicenter of the novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak in the world, with some 93,000 infected and over 10,000 deaths, surpassing even China.

On Friday, Netanyahu had wished British Prime Minister Boris Johnson “a full and speedy recovery on behalf of the people of Israel.”
