Hamas’ Calculations Were Correct

Dear Editor:

Hamas deliberately constructed their terror tunnels and other installations next to, or sometimes underneath, hospitals, schools, daycare centers, and mosques in the hope that the international community would pressure Israel to refrain from bombing those sites.

As we have seen, Hamas calculated correctly. Because of the Biden Administration’s pressure to reduce civilian casualties — even at the cost of its own soldiers’ lives — Israel has sent its soldiers on foot to danger’s door, instead of bombing more intensely.

During World War II, President Franklin D. Roosevelt never ordered American soldiers to risk their lives to spare enemy civilians. Our planes bombed civilian areas in Germany and Japan when the war effort demanded it. Calling on Israel not to do so is immoral. Israelis have gone to great lengths to ensure that as few civilians as possible have been harmed in battle. None of the nations that have fought wars against Israel can say the same. Not one.

Sincerely,
Moshe Phillips

UNRWA Must Be Shut Down

Dear Editor:

During the 1948/49 Arab-Israeli war, 700,000 Arabs became refugees. Transjordan occupied Judea and Samaria. Egypt held Gaza.

Those under Jordanian control were offered citizenship, refugee status or could be left on their own. Those who chose refugee status were cared for by UNRWA. This was meant to be a temporary situation until they could be permanently settled. UNRWA spread to include all Arab refugees.

UNRWA has been a massive fraud. Perhaps 16,000 of the original refugees are still held in camps in Lebanon, Jordan, Syria and PA and Hamas-controlled areas. The UN decided to classify all their descendants as refugees as well, a status never conferred on others. The UN-created refugees now number 5 million, cared for by 16,000 well paid UNRWA employees.

The UN took no interest in the 1 million Jews forced out of Arab lands. Jewish refugees who fled to Israel were cared for and integrated into society. The UN contributed nothing towards their support.

The United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Arab League should hang their heads in shame. They created a Nakba. They trapped generation after generation of Arabs in squalid refugee camps. And, for what purpose?  To attack Israel?  To promote anti-Semitism?

The cause of the Arab refugees must be addressed and they must be set free. UNRWA must be shut down. UNHRC (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) should be tasked with ending this hypocrisy.

Migrants Who Attack NYPD Must Be Deported

Dear Editor:

First, we have a group of migrant asylum seekers assault two police officers in Times Square.  They took turns kicking their heads and torso.  After being arrested, they were released within hours without bail.  Upon leaving the Manhattan Criminal Court after arraignment, one gave the middle finger. Neither the District Attorney or the Judge requested bail.  More than one migrant already had a previous arrest record. Second, NYPD has been tracking another larger group of migrants who are roaming Manhattan as pick-pockets. What’s next, car jacking?

The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) should be allowed to immediately deport any migrant assaulting law enforcement officials or committing crimes against citizens. Being in America is a privilege earned by going thru the legal process of becoming a citizen, not an automatic right upon your first steps on our sovereign soil.  Migrants should obey the same laws we do and suffer the same consequences for any crimes committed.

Sincerely,
Larry Penner

Hamas are Today’s Nazis

Dear Editor:

Prime Minister Netanyahu is right to compare Hamas to the Nazis (your Jan. 28 news article). They commit mass murder. They preach anti-Semitism. They even have an Arabic-language edition of Mein Kampf. I mean, if they walk like Nazis and they talk like Nazis, well then I see nothing wrong with comparing them to Nazis. The facts speak for themselves.

Sincerely,

Italy’s Call for Palestinian State is “Abominable”

Dear Editor:

I am not impressed by the speech by Italy’s president,  Sergio Mattarella, about how the Holocaust “the most abominable of crimes” (as reported in the Jewish Voice on Jan. 26).

Whatever value that statement had, was completely erased by what he said next: “Those who have suffered the vile attempt to erase their own people from the land know that one cannot deny another people the right to a state.” Talk about abominable! He was basically saying that by not giving the Palestinians a state, Israel is as bad as Hamas, or maybe the Nazis. The idea that every group of people in the world is entitled to a sovereign state is ridiculous. The world is full of ethnic minorities who don’t have their own separate countries. There are more than one million Romanians living in Italy, as well as nearly half a million Albanians. Should they be given their own states, too?

Rabbis for Hamas? Is that Possible?

Dear Editor:

Thanks for your Jan. 19 article about the fringe group that calls itself “Rabbis for Ceasefire Now.” This is America, and everybody is entitled to say what they want. But what about truth in advertising? This group would be much more honest if they called themselves “Rabbis for Gang-Rapists,” or “Rabbis for Baby-Beheaders,” or at least “Rabbis for Hamas.” At least that way it would be clear to everyone which side they are on.

Sincerely,
Ethel Mannheim
