Ahead of International Holocaust Day that will take place on Saturday, and at the initiative of the World Jewish Congress, a sign with the inscription #WeRemember was placed on the European Parliament building in Brussels. Throughout the weekend, hundreds of public buildings and institutions around the world will be illuminated with the campaign slogan as well as the Azrieli buildings in Tel Aviv and the foreign ministry headquarters in Jerusalem.

The number of heroes alive today who survived the Holocaust has dwindled to below 250,000, with the average ago of survivors at 85, according to a Claims Conference report. The oldest known survivor, according to the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany, is Rose Girone, who lives on Long Island and turned 112 last week. She and her family fled Nazi Germany a year after her wedding, staying in Shanghai until the war’s end. “My mother will be the first to tell you, we’re very lucky all around,” said her daughter Reha Bennicasa, 85 and a child survivor.

The Claims Conference report is the first to break down the population of Jewish survivors by country of birth and current country of residence; age; gender; and the percentages receiving various compensations and services. It says there are survivors in over 90 countries, with half living in Israel, 18% in North America, another 18% in Western Europe and 12% in the former Soviet Union.

Newsmax reported that over half of America’s youth supports Hamas in the war that the terror group launched against Israel. The report said that kids across the US are being taught in public schools that Israel is an apartheid, colonialist, oppressor state that is subjugating Palestinians. They are also being taught that Jews are the elite ruling class that exploits and oppresses others.

Israeli member of Knesset Boaz Bismuth addressed the European Parliament and in his powerful remarks, he lambasted the speeches of EU members for their condemnation of Israel for defending itself against Hamas terrorism. He also speaks of the heinous atrocities and the mass slaughter committed by Hamas on October 7th. He concludes his speech by accusing the EU of lacking compassion because the victims of this massacre were Jews.

State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller has made it clear that the solution to the security crisis in Israel and the Gaza war cannot be achieved without addressing the issue of a Palestinian state.

However, we must consider this: the history of Israel’s withdrawals from Gaza and southern Lebanon in the name of peace, with Israel making huge sacrifices to its own security, and doing so based on false promises emanating from UN resolutions and false promises of  security, it may well be argued, led to the Oct. 7 massacre.

Thus, the history of Israel’s withdrawals from Gaza and southern Lebanon in the name of peace, with the urging of the U.S. and Western countries, serves as a cautionary tale about the trajectory of Mideast policies and strategies, on the part of both the United States and Israel. The nation of Israel has sacrificied much; concurrently the UN has not sufficiently held parties accountable for violations. The UN has not bolstered or upheld their resolutions in the form of clearly discernible action.

Israel sacrificed more than any other country has for peace only to be attacked again and again by those who are afraid to confront the true aggressors.

It’s essential for the global community to stand up for the truth and confront the blatant violations of UN resolutions by these extremist groups.

Only by holding such groups accountable and pursuing diplomatic solutions that demand concessions from both sides can a lasting peace be achieved in the region.

In other news, a new eatery in Jordan that celebrates Hamas’s massacre of 1,200 people in Israel has gone viral on social media, eliciting praise in Arab circles.  According to Jordanian media, the “October 7” restaurant opened in Karak Governorate, located southwest of the capital Amman, offering pizza and two types of shawarma to hungry Jordanians.  Video posted online showed eager diners lining up outside.

The star of the Netflix series “Fauda”, Israeli actor Idan Amedi who sustained an injury while serving in the IDF in Gaza, shares tears at a press conference when he said, “I will return to create, sing and act. Mother, don’t be angry, but if G-d gives me strength, I will also return to fight for my country.”
