(TJV) On Sunday, a pro-Palestinian, pro-Hamas rally in Times Square, endorsed by the New York chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America, has come under sharp criticism for its blatant  support of terrorism following the horrificterror assault on Israel all weekend long.

Prominent members of the Democratic Party, including Governor Kathy Hochul, expressed strong condemnation of the event, labeling it as “abhorrent and morally repugnant.”

This rally, attended by over 1,000 pro-Palestinian supporters, featured chants such as “Resistance is justified when people are occupied,” which raised concerns about its implicit endorsement of violence. The event also exposed divisions within the Democratic Party, with mainstream Democrats firmly expressing their support for Israel’s right to self-defense.

Members of the so-called “Squad,” which includes Democratic Socialists, faced criticism from both Republicans and some within their own party for not unequivocally acknowledging Israel’s right to defend itself against Hamas attacks.

This rally added pressure on representatives like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Jamaal Bowman, who have affiliations with the Democratic Socialists and represent a region with a significant Jewish population. It is worth noting that the rally was not organized by the New York Democratic Socialists of America, and no prominent DSA members were seen in attendance.

Pro-Israeli supporters also organized a rally near the Israeli consulate in Manhattan in response to the pro-Palestinian demonstration.

Within the Democratic Socialists in Congress, some members attempted to strike a balance between condemning Hamas’ violence and maintaining their stance against what they view as “Israeli aggression.” For instance leftist radical , Bowman condemned the violence but did not explicitly call for a ceasefire, emphasizing the need to address the long-standing issues in the region.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced that the NYPD would be monitoring the rallies to ensure they remained peaceful, acknowledging people’s right to protest even if he disagreed with celebrating such incidents.

The Times Square protest was organized by various groups, including the A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition and the Palestinian Youth Movement. The rally began in Times Square and later moved toward the Consulate General of Israel. Over 100 NYPD officers and city personnel were present to manage the march and maintain order.

Despite the tensions, the two groups were kept apart by barricades and police presence, preventing direct clashes between the deranged pro terrorist radicals  and pro-Israeli protesters. There were isolated incidents, including an individual rushing toward the Palestinian side, but she was restrained by the NYPD.
