Jewish and Non-Jewish Celebrities Shamefully Retract Support for Israel

By Lieba Nesis

The current Israeli crisis due to the Hamas atrocities of October 7th is a dark day in Jewish history.  Not just because of the massive slaughter of civilians which included beheadings of infants, rapes of adolescents and executions of the elderly but also due to the reprehensible response from Jewish celebrities.

Former IDF combat instructor Gal Gadot who boasts 109 million followers on Instagram claims to be an avid supporter of Israel yet is she? Commanding more than $20 million per movie project it is becoming increasingly clear she cares more about the risk of being canceled then she does about her Israeli compatriots.  When the October 7th carnage first occurred her unfortunate response was, “Killing innocent Palestinians is horrific.  Killing innocent Israelis is horrific. If you don’t feel the same you should ask yourself why.”  Can you imagine after the largest mass killing of civilians in Israeli history since the Holocaust Gadot began a sentence decrying the innocent killing of Palestinians before Israel even began retaliating.  The only thing I am asking why to is how an IDF soldier can equate the perpetrators of violence with the victims immediately following the carnage.

Gadot received significant Israeli backlash and soon removed her post-too little too late.  In May 2021 when Hamas lobbed thousands of rockets into Israel Gadot wrote, “Israel deserves to live as a free and safe nation.  Our neighbors deserve the same. I pray for our leaders to find the solutions so we can live side by side in peace.”  Advocating for a two-state solution which would allow Hamas to kill and maim with greater alacrity while Gadot lounges in her $5 million Malibu mansion picking up massive paychecks is abhorrent.  Israeli Television host Ofira Asayag responded accordingly, “Keep quiet…you live in some Hollywood movie and whenever you feel like it, you’re Israeli again.”

Celebrities are running scared for fear they will be canceled in liberal Hollywood and lose the big dinero and accolades.  Josh Gad first posted on “Threads” that as a grandchild of Holocaust survivors he was horrified by Hamas kidnapping and gunning down innocent civilians and parading the dead around akin to livestock.. In a self pitying and puerile move he then went on to complain that he had been “shamed and threatened”-which he found appalling since he “has always been critical of the Israeli government and its pattern of occupation and attacks on innocent Gazans”-if this is from a descendant of Holocaust survivors what do we expect from others.  Similarly, comedian Sarah Silverman whose sister and nieces and nephews are in Israel wrote that Hamas is a terror organization whose mission is to kill Jews with the caveat that we should protest Netanyahu and “fight for a two state solution”-shame on her!

The fear of losing business remains so potent Instagram influencer Kylie Jenner with 399 million followers removed her innocuous post, “now and always, we stand with the people of Israel” within hours. The world is replete with cowards.

Just ask restaurateur Keith McNally who immediately followed the savagery of Hamas with the post “the more repugnant the facts the greater the responsibility to listen.”  After receiving immense global backlash he doubled down on his comments with the statement that he was part Jewish and had visited a kibbutz in the 1970’s and his brother Peter spied for Israel.  These were lies: Keith is zero percent Jewish and according to the Internet as of 2013 his “brother” is a taxi driver in England-hardly credentials for an Israeli spy.  After McNally’s landlords threatened to revoke his lease at Pastis and Balthazar he wrote a half-assed apology on Instagram which nobody has accepted-too little too late.

Black Lives Matter has always been a celebrity favorite as singer Justin Bieber was the first to get on the bandwagon in 2017 during their protests remarking, “racism is evil.  I want my black brothers and sisters to feel supported, seen and valued.”  So I guess racism is horrific but chopping up babies is no big deal as he wrote in response to Israel, “I’m pretty sure we all instinctively know evil when we see it… I’m not interested in taking sides.  To villainize all Palestinians or all Israeli people to me seems wrong.”  I think it is wrong to not take sides during a slaughter.

Not one of the top ten Instagram influencers who collectively boast more than 4 billion followers has come out in support of Israel except for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson who peppered his condemnation of Hamas with “the loss of innocent Israeli and Palestinian lives is heart wrenching”-once again equating the victims with the perpetrators.  The silence of those such as Jennifer Lopez, Ben Affleck, Oprah Winfrey, Taylor Swift, and Alex Rodriguez who spoke out for “Black Lives Matter” but in this case are voiceless is disturbing at best.  Steven Spielberg who redefined history with “Schindler’s List” and received the Israeli Genesis Prize in 2021 has yet to utter a word-disgraceful.  Adam Sandler, The Fat Jewish, Scarlett Johansson, Howard Stern, Sarah Jessica Parker, Timothee Chalamet and Gloria Steinem have all proven that even if they have Jewish blood they will be silent when it is spilled.  Israeli Natalie Portman has continually berated Israel for “abuse of power and violence” while recently halfheartedly admonishing Hamas.

The worst offender of all might be Mark Ruffalo who urged the United States to boycott and sanction Israel for her apartheid and genocidal policies after countering Hamas rocket attacks in May 2021.  While currently claiming to have “no answers” to the fighting his Twitter account quoted Nathan Thrall, saying “we pray for the safety of the innocent people of Gaza who are being bombarded and besieged.”  And then you have the blatant Jew haters such as Lebanese porn star Mai Khalifa, who requested that Hamas cameramen turn the camera horizontal so she could view the killings clearer: and yes she has gained millions of followers on Twitter since her anti-Semitism was unmasked.

I am not completely hopeless as some Jews have shown to be unequivocal Israel lovers including Jerry and Jessica Seinfeld and Amy Schumer who post continually on the atrocities.  Plaudits to the Half-Palestinian model Gigi Hadid who despite being an Arab sympathizer had the decency to denounce “the terrorizing of innocent people.”

Hedge fund mogul Bill Ackman, married to Israeli Neri Oxman, is another hero reversing cancel culture on Hamas lovers by joining more than a dozen CEO’s in blacklisting all Harvard students who signed a document one hundred percent blaming Israel for the carnage-many of whom later retracted their signatures.  And while the African American community has been largely silent a parade should be held for championship boxer Floyd Mayweather who has not only shared three posts to his 30 million Instagram followers standing with Israel and lamenting all the innocent Israelis murdered he is sending his $50 million private jet to bring water, food and bulletproof vests for the IDF.  After he implored “celebrities and athletes to use their voice to denounce these heinous acts” Lebron James reiterated that “the murder and violence against Israel is terrorism.” It is time for every Jew to show the same unequivocal support for baseless savagery.
