The escalation of the Hamas-Israeli war has unmasked the proclivities of Hollywood as Israeli naysayers Mark Ruffalo, Greta Thunberg, Susan Sarandon and John Cusack take the offense. Immediately after the Israeli slaughters 700 Hollywood stars including Gal Gadot, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jerry and Jessica Seinfeld, Mark Hamill and Michael Douglas signed a letter condemning Hamas and demanding a return of hostages.

Since then all the rhetoric has been anti-Israel with an “open letter from artists for Palestine UK” signed by more than 2,000 actors, artists and musicians including: Tilda Swinton, Steve Coogan and Sam Heughan accusing Israel of war crimes against Gaza with nary a mention of Hamas.

Has-been actor John Cusack’s Twitter rantings continue with a Sunday October 22nd post, “I believe Netanyahu is insane. His genocidal one-way war will not only massacre Palestinians but will explode the region into war.  Nothing can excuse the inhumanity imposed by Israel.”

Who can forget Cusacks’s June 2019 anti-Semitic tweet featuring a blue Star of David pushing down on people accompanied by his “follow the money” comment.  Mark Ruffalo has devoted his entire Twitter account to undermining Israel first responding to the Hamas atrocities by saying he had “no answers” and then once Israel started fighting back quoting Naomi Klein saying, “we must not stand by if we are ever witnesses to genocidal violence” and urging Israel to “turn on water” while showing bloodied Palestinian children when calling for an end to “child bloodshed”-resulting in merciless mocking on social media.

Climate activist Greta Thunberg’s October 19th Instagram post contained a “Stand with Gaza” sign which was accompanied by an anti-Semitic trope of a toy octopus -a symbol used by the Nazis for anti-Jewish propaganda.  The Israeli government called her out on Twitter saying, “@Greta Thunberg, Hamas doesn’t use sustainable materials for their rockets which have butchered innocent Israelis.” Thunberg removed the octopus but kept the abhorrent message.  Israel has been on a necessarily aggressive warpath to counter celebrities such as Gigi Hadid and others whose one-sided blasting of Israel continues unabated.

Most outrageous was the donning of Palestinian colors by singer Alicia Keys who said she wanted to take up paragliding and then denied it was related to the Hamas terrorists who massacred on paraglides.

On Friday October 20th Joaquin Phoenix, Cate Blanchett, Jessica Chastain, Andrew Garfield, Kristen Stewart, and Susan Sarandon signed a letter to President Biden urging an immediate cease fire; celebrities who never uttered a word after 1,400 innocents were slaughtered were now outraged over Israel fighting back.

Even Jon Stewart whose family members are Ashkenazi Jewish immigrants signed this reprehensible petition.  Ceasefire is another code word to attack Israel identical to catchphrases BDS, colonialism and apartheid-all uttered to mask Jewish hatred.

Left leaning comedian Sarah Silverman quickly deleted and retracted her post slamming those calling Israel inhumane for cutting off water saying she made a “stoned mistake.”  She has since removed nearly all her pro-Israel Twitter posts.  Other celebrities are further backtracking support:Kylie Jenner deleted her “I stand with Israel” Instagram story and Justin Bieber said he would remain neutral after first supporting Israel.

All those who were outraged during the Black Lives Matter protests including Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Oprah Winfrey and most shocking of all Steven Spielberg have remained silent.  The fashion industry has been equally disappointing with Harper’s Bazaar editor-in-chief Samira Nasr calling the cutting off of power to Gaza, “the most inhuman thing” she has ever seen right after 30 Jewish children were beheaded. Was she fired? Of course not! She gave some half-assed apology and all was forgotten. Vogue editor-at-large Gabriella Karefa Johnson similarly likened Israeli to an “apartheid state” committing “genocide” by the IDF which she said was a terrorist organization-not a word from the fashion community.  Vogue editor Anna Wintour, along with her magazine, has been completely silent, never addressing the horrific atrocities inflicted on Israel.

Anti-Semite Dave Chappelle used his Thursday night October 19th Boston show to censure Israel for war-crimes-not a surprise coming from a comedian who describes Jews as aliens who came down to claim the earth as theirs while using his SNL November 2022 monologue to comment on their ownership of Hollywood. Power agent Ari Emanuel, whose father fought in the Israeli army, placed the blame for the attacks on Bibi Netanyahu for “exposing” Israel to beheadings and rape-shame on him!

There are those who have bravely spoken up for Israel including Amy Schumer, Gal Gadot, Jerry and Jessica Seinfeld, and Floyd Mayweather but the list is far too small. Gone are the days of the legendary Frank Sinatra who aided the Haganah in smuggling weapons to Palestine because he remarked, “I wanted to help. It was the beginning of a young nation and I wanted to make sure they wouldn’t fall down”-a sentiment clearly not shared by modern day Hollywood
