Northwell Lenox Hill Hospital has been listed as one of 100 hospitals and health systems with great heart programs in 2023 by Becker’s Hospital Review. The medical center was chosen due to its exemplary cardiac care, excellent patient outcomes, and innovative use of new technologies, as well as for highly skilled team members who drive notable research in the field of cardiology. Northwell’s North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset was also on the list.

“This recognition is a testament to the tireless work of our talented clinicians who are dedicated to ensuring patients leave our facility with the best possible outcomes,” said S. Jacob Scheinerman, MD, chairman of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery at Northwell Lenox Hill Hospital. “Providing quality care to all patients using innovative technology and customized treatment plans are at the core of our mission.”

Hospitals were selected based on an analysis of rankings and awards granted by various prominent organizations – including U.S. News & World Report, Healthgrades, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and the Leapfrog Group– as well as through nominations from readers. Lenox Hill was chosen based on the following accolades:

Its placement in the top five percent in the nation for cardiac services by Healthgrades for 10 consecutive years;

Its ranking among U.S. News and World Report’s “Best Hospitals” for cardiology and heart surgery;

The Society of Thoracic Surgeons’ recognition of Lenox Hill as one of the top providers of bypass surgery, and mitral valve repair and replacement surgery.

“This honor recognizes Lenox Hill’s unwavering commitment to combating heart disease by employing world-class experts and utilizing innovative procedures, technology, and research,” said Varinder Singh, MD chair of cardiology at Northwell Lenox Hill Hospital and senior vice president of cardiology for the health system’s Western Region. “Heart disease is a deadly problem our nation has been facing for far too long. Our goal at “We strive to keep our community healthy not just through groundbreaking treatments and compassionate care, but also through exceptional preventative programs and services.”

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. In 2021, approximately 695,000 Americans died from heart disease, which accounted for one in every five deaths, according to the CDC. A yearly average of 805,000 Americans suffer from heart attacks. Lifestyle choices like poor diet, lack of exercise, excessive alcohol use and smoking raise the risk of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and heart disease.
