Apparently, many of the illegal migrants who were bussed into New York City from the Southern border are less than enchanted by the Big Apple.

Many migrants are fleeing the hustle and bustle and crime in NYC, heading to Canada.  As reported by the NY Post, free taxpayer funded tickets are being handed out to migrants at Manhattan’s Port Authority Bus Terminal, to help them leave.  Several migrants said they were taking the buses headed upstate so they can then cross into Canada.  On Sunday, at about 4 a.m., Raymond Peña, a migrant from Venezuelan, arrived with his family near a bus stop in Plattsburgh, NY, which is roughly 20 miles south of the Canadian border.  “The military gave me and my family free bus tickets,” Peña said. “I am going to Canada for a better quality of life for my family.”  A National Guard source confirmed, telling the Post, that soldiers at the bus terminal were connecting migrants with workers who have been doling out free tickets.

Per the Post, Mayor Eric Adams has funded several programs for migrants, and has paid companies to run a “re-ticketing” program, to help migrants travel to other cities, a City Hall source said.  Several nonprofit organizations, including Catholic Charities, also are working to help migrants who wish to flee the city. A spokesperson for Catholic Charities Community Services confirmed that it has aided “thousands of new migrants,” including those who “reported their desire to relocate to other cities, and Catholic Charities provided some assistance for their travel expenses.”  The travel destinations have been limited to within the US, because of restrictions that prohibit the migrants from leaving the country while on immigration “parole”, while waiting for the outcome of asylum proceedings, a source told the Post.

Among the migrant community, however, the newcomers seem convinced that Canada is the place to go, with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau touting his country’s “proud and longstanding tradition of welcoming people seeking safety”.  The migrants travel to Plattsburgh, and then reportedly rip up their American immigration documents, preparing to cross the Canadian border.  The Post wrote that bits of Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Documents can be seen on the floors of the “Frontera” shuttle vans.  These vans, named after the Spanish word for “border,” are operated by “Chad’s Shuttle Services.”  “There’s gotta be 100 people a day,” said Driver Tyler Tambini, 23. “I do this all day. They get dropped off and I take them the rest of the way.”

“I wanted to live in New York because I thought it would be a better future for my daughters,” said Peruvian native Susy Sanchez Solzarno, 33, who migrated from Mexico in December with her husband and two daughters. “But as the days went by, I saw insecurity, many homeless people, many people who shout and are disrespectful, and many people on drugs.” Her family purchased their own tickets to flee to Canada, “for the safety and future of my girls,” she said.

Other migrants are leaving so they can find work.  “It is very difficult to get papers in America,” said Venezuelan native Manuel Rodon, 26. “I need to work, so I am going to Canada.”   In the U.S., the law prohibits the migrants from getting legal jobs or applying for work permits until 30 days after formally seeking asylum.
