As suicides among adolescents and young adults continue to grow in the tumultuous times in which we live, the New York Post recently reported that new details are emerging in the suicide death of a 17 year old Manhattan girl over the weekend.

Shortly before 1 pm on Sunday, the girl jumped from the apartment window, the Post reported, while her mother and aunt were home.

Speaking to the Post, a law enforcement source said that,  “The mom’s inside the apartment with her sister when she hears a loud thud. She looked out the fire escape window and saw her daughter.”

People in the vicinity of the building nor the police revealed any details about the tragedy that left the girl dead  and her mother and aunt horrified.

Also speaking to the Post, neighbors said the girl’s father is an investment banker with JP Morgan Chase, but that they hadn’t seen him around much recently.

“He has two daughters and they usually come over and say hi,” the doorman at another apartment building on the block said Monday, according to the Post report.  “Very nice people. Very nice.”

The doorman also told the Post that,  “I haven’t seen them in the last few weeks. They haven’t been around. Yesterday, I went on my lunch and a minute later she jumped. It’s terrible. Shock.”

Another area doorman also told the Post that this marked the second apparent suicide on the block in six months.

The Post reported that according to the East Side Feed blog,  a 27-year-old man jumped from his apartment window on June 19th at his residence at 131 East 82nd St., an apartment building across the street.
