Richard Gere Sells 50-Acre Upstate New York Estate for $28M

Golden Globe Award winning actor, Richard Gere, has officially sold his long-time home in upstate New York.
As reported by the NY Post, the Pound Ridge estate went into contract for $28 million on Wednesday. The home, which was first listed in October, was on the market for seven months, and sold at the listing price. Gere had purchased the land for $1.51 million back in 1986. The 50-acre home included a private lake with a sandy beach and an island to row out to, a pool, rolling hills for horseback riding, a vegetable garden, and even a secret soccer field surrounded by weeping willow trees and gardens. The estate, only an hour away from NYC, features five structures including horse stables, a pool house, and guest house.
The main residence boasts eight bedrooms and 11 bathrooms, spanning more than11,600 square feet. Special features in the home include: a music room, a pottery and arts room, a library, study, sun room as well as the formal living room, family room and expansive gourmet kitchen. Muffin Dowdle with Ginnel Real Estate handled the listing. “One of the great American family compounds one hour to New York City,” said the previous listing. “This magical country compound, expertly meshed into the landscape, comprises nearly 50 acres all buffered from the outside world by over 4,300 acres of protected land to create a peaceful and playful refuge with natural beauty at its core.”
The actor reported purchased another home in January 2021, to replace this one. Gere purchased a $10 million, seven-bedroom estate in North Salem, about an hour and a half away from Manhattan. He also purchased a vacant neighboring parcel for $700,000, which brings his new property size to 35 acres. The new home itself spans about 9,000 square feet, and also includes a pool and pool house. .
The 72-year-old actor has gained international acclaim for a long list of films, including “An Officer and a Gentleman”, “Pretty Woman”, “American Gigolo”, “The Cotton Club”, “Primal Fear”, “Runaway Bride”, and “Chicago”. Gere was named People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” in 1999.
In 2018, Gere married Spanish publicist and political activist Alejandra Silva, 37, with whom he shares two children. As per the Post, he also has a 21-year old son from ex-wife Carey Lowell. Gere was also previously married to supermodel Cindy Crawford.
