Hunter Biden May Have Paid Tax Debt but Now Faces Wide Ranging Federal Probe

It appears that President Joe Biden’s son Hunter still finds himself in a colossal mess, despite having paid his whopping tax debt.

A new report indicates that Hunter Biden paid off a tax liability of over $1 million a year after he announced he was under investigation for defrauding the IRS but, according to published reports he could still face charges in the wide-ranging federal probe.

The New York Post reported that the younger Biden has been under investigation for failing to pay taxes since his father was vice-president, but the inquiry broadened in 2018 to look into how his international business dealings intersected with President Biden’s political career.

In 2019, the feds issued a grand jury subpoena to examine Hunter’s bank transactions with the Bank of China, his uncle and former business partners, according to the Post report. In 2020, the Post reported that a subpoena was issued seeking documents related to his expenses while he served on the board of a Ukraine energy company, known as Burisma, during the time that former President Obama was in the White House.

In October 2020, The Post exclusively revealed a hard drive holding the contents of Hunter’s laptop contained a trove of emails that detailed how the president’s son used his political leverage in his overseas business dealings.

After two years of ignoring or denying the story, the New York Times has acknowledged that Hunter’s “laptop from hell,” one of the biggest bombshells of the 2020 election cycle despite social media censorship and the establishment media’s news blackout, is real, according to a report on Breitbart.com

Breitbart also reported that at the time, a wide swathe of establishment media figures and organizations sought to discredit the New York Post’s story. Taxpayer-funded NPR claimed there were “red flags” in the Post’s story, including unfounded claims from intelligence officials that Russia was involved, and claimed the story could not be “verified” – despite doing no work to verify it.

Politico, similarly, published a story with claims from “intelligence officials” calling the story “Russian disinfo,” without doing any independent work to verify the material in the laptop, which was widely available to news publications, as was reported by Breitbart.

In an interview with CNBC at the time, NewsGuard co-founder Steven Brill said, “My personal opinion is there’s a high likelihood this story is a hoax, maybe even a hoax perpetrated by the Russians again.”

On Thursday, the attorney representing the Arkansas woman who had a child by Hunter Biden out of wedlock recently confirmed that she testified to a federal grand jury in Delaware as part of a criminal tax probe of the president’s son, according to a CNBC report.

Clint Lancaster, the attorney for the mother, Lunden Alexis Roberts, also told CNBC that he previously handed over “a significant amount of Hunter’s financial records” to federal investigators to comply with a subpoena for those files.

Speaking to CNBC, Lancaster said he and Roberts were interviewed by an assistant U.S. attorney, an FBI agent and an IRS agent — “one that carries a badge and gun” — more than a year ago about Biden in Little Rock, Ark., where Lancaster practices law.

Lancaster told CNBC:  “I expect him to be indicted. Just based on what I saw in his financial records, I would be surprised if he’s not indicted.”

The attorney also told CNBC that although he believes an indictment of the younger Biden may be imminent, he and his clients “don’t want Hunter to go to jail.”

Lancaster is a Trump supporter and even participated in legal challenges to the 2020 presidential election results which showed that Biden has won the state of Wisconsin. “It’s not my goal, much to the unhappiness of many people in the Republican Party,” Lancaster told CNBC.

Biden, 52, has previously denied wrongdoing in his tax affairs.

CNBC reported that the White House declined to comment on the case, or on Lancaster’s statement that neither Hunter Biden nor President Biden or any other family member has ever seen the daughter Hunter had by Roberts.

Lancaster also told CNBC that: “I’m not making any statements about what was in the tax records, whether he paid taxes, or whether he didn’t pay taxes.”

The Times reported that although the probe initially was focused on a possible criminal violation of tax laws, it since has broadened to include questions of whether Hunter Biden violated laws related to foreign lobbying and money laundering, according to the CNBC report.
