As violent crime in New York City continues to rise, it has recently been reported by the New York Post a tourist to the Big Apple was shot several times in the legs and groin in an attempted robbery. The Post reported that robbers were after a six figure Richard Mille watch worn by 33-year-old Pierrick Jamaux. The report indicated that he is an expert in cryptocurrency who was born in France and apparently had shown off his high-priced timepieces on social media.

Speaking to police on Friday morning, Jamaux told them that a man approached him and his friends as he exited an Uber car at their hotel in Midtown Manhattan and demanded that he hand over his watch, as was reported by the Post.

The Post reported that in Jamaux’s company at the time of the assault was Sarah Watts, w6, his Australian model wife as well as another woman. The other woman, who was not named, was “returning to the Fifty Hotel and Suites at 155 East 50th St. from the Sapphire 39 strip club on West 39th Street,” according to the Post report.

Sources close to the story told the Post that Jamaux’s assailant bent over him in an attempt to take something when Jamaux fell to the ground from the gunshot wounds that he sustained in the attack. Sources added that a 25-year old woman who was with Jamaux, “jumped on the gunman’s back before he shrugged her off and fled,” according to the Post report.

Police reported that there were five shell casings that were discovered at the scene of the shooting. Sources told the Post that Jamaux was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he had multiple entry and exit wounds to both legs.

Jamaux’s wife, Sarah Watts left Bellevue Hospital on Saturday afternoon but did not comment on her husband’s condition to reporters, according to the Post.

Currently residing in Hong Kong, Jamaux is a native of France and is a “founder of an online banking platform called Hi, which says it is a “next-gen crypto exchange and mobile banking app, for savings, investments and payments,” as was reported by the Post. Moreover, according to his company biography, Jamaux is a “lifestyle guru,” the Post report indicated.

Flaunting his lavish lifestyle on social media, Jamaux’s Instagram account displays photos of him and his wife living it up in Hong Kong and Paris. They are shown eating caviar and drinking champagne.

A photo posted in December shows Jamaux in Hong Kong wearing his Richard Mille watch on his wrist, while he puts is arm around his wife, according to the Post report.

The Post reported that some models of watching produced by Richard Mille run north of $1 million. Another report said that some of the Mille watches are only available in limited editions, while other are constructed “with an alloy developed by NASA to be used on supersonic aircraft wings,” according to the Post.
