Brad Lander, who has been a member of the City Council representing several of the most affluent areas of Brooklyn and is poised to become the next Comptroller of NYC, has turned his back on Israel and has sided with Ben & Jerry’s and their BDS like boycott of Israel’s West Bank.
In April, Lander was embraced and endorsed by progressive “rock star” Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. AOC’s endorsement was effective as Lander easily defeated his Democratic opponent, Corey Johnson, and is poised to crush his unknown Republican opponent in November. AOC surrounds herself with some of the most rabid leftists in congress, including Illan Omar, Cory Bush, and Rashida Tlaib. They all share incredibly racist and anti-Semitic viewpoints and Lander seems to be capitulating to his new Democrat party allies, “the squad”.
Brad Lander, who is Jewish, was once a strong ally of Israel as the NY Post pointed out.
NY Post reported: The Brooklyn Democrat said he was “a Jewish New Yorker who cares about the wellbeing of both Israelis and Palestinians,” but the leftward pivot is a significant departure from Lander’s days in the City Council, when he co-sponsored a May 2016 resolution “condemning all efforts to delegitimize the State of Israel and the global movement to boycott, divest from, and sanction the people of Israel.” That same year he attended the annual Celebrate Israel Parade.
The outlet also pointed out Lander was stated as saying: “As a proud, active, progressive Jew, I feel deeply invested in Israel,” he said in a statement about the 2016 resolution, adding he cared “a great deal about Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish, democratic state, a haven for Jews in times of trouble.”
In 2015, anti-Israel partisans attacked Lander for going on an Israel junket paid for by the city’s Jewish Community Relations Council.
Today, Brad Lander is singing a different tune and sounding like a garden variety, mis-informed Palestinian activist. On his way to becoming the next NYC Comptroller, he’s no longer concerned with New Yorkers who strongly support Israel, nor his Jewish heritage, as he sees a brave new world ahead in his career by rolling with the “squad” and their anti-Semitic, Hamas sympathetic comrades. In the incredibly “woke” environment which permeates in NYC’s politics, capitulation to every single plank of the far-left is essential to avoid being cancelled.
In, response to Ben and Jerry’s announcement, Lander tweeted this week that “ending Israel’s military occupation is a moral imperative,” adding he disagreed with moves by the state comptroller’s office to restrict investments in Ben and Jerry’s parent company Unilever over the issue, The NY Post reported.
Brad Lander, who was once targeted in NYC for his strong defense of Israel, has joined the same den of radical leftists, in the name of power and acceptance of his peers.
