As NYC inches closer to the June Mayoral Primary for a race which many are calling the most important one since the 1977 contest, endorsements will continue to become more important, and Eric Adams who has been closing the gap in recent polls against front runner Andrew Yang, is scoring some impressive commendations.

East NY News reported:

Queens Borough President Donovan Richards just became the latest city heavyweight to join in the big push to get Eric Adams into City Hall. In the endorsement announcement in front of Queens Borough Hall, Richards touted Adams’ experience noting that the city is at a critical juncture and needs battle tested leadership that would not be afraid to make tough decisions.

Bronx Borough President, Ruben Diaz Jr, also gave a full-throated endorsement for Mr. Adams.

Transport Workers Union-TWU Local 100, the MTA’s largest union overwhelmingly endorsed the Borough President Eric Adams for mayor. The union’s executive board voted for Adams after listening to the 8 leading Democrats at Union Hall.

East NY news pointed out even more endorsements for Adams, over 50 Latino community leaders have also thrown their support behind Adams They include Assemblymember Erik Dilan, Assemblymember Jose Rivera, former Bronx Borough President Freddy Ferrer and Staten Island Assembly Member Charles Fall.

In one of the most interesting endorsements for Eric Adams, the Haitian American victim of the brutal police sodomy attack in 1997, Abner Louima, has endorsed the Brooklyn Borough president and veteran police captain, Eric Adams.

Louima who was attacked, brutally beaten, and sodomized with a plunger by a deranged NYPD officer after he was arrested outside a Brooklyn nightclub told the press: “My message today is clear, New York, as the greatest city in the world, needs a good leader with a lot of vision,” Louima said at a press conference outside City Hall. “Eric Adams doesn’t need any introduction — his vision and what he has already done, I believe he will be the greatest mayor for this great city.”

Frontrunner Andrew Yang and Eric Adams are vying for endorsements from the Orthodox community as well. BoroPark 24, reported that Adams had secured endorsements from community leaders in Borough Park, Crown Heights, Williamsburg, Staten Island and Queens. They included Rabbi Moshe Leib Rabinovich, leader of the Munkatcher Hasidic movement in Borough Park, and Chanina Sperlin, executive vice president of the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council.

Yang is banking on some Orthodox support as well and heavily campaigning in the Ultra-Orthodox community.

The gap in polls between the two frontrunners is tightening, as a recent TJV reader poll, showed the 2 candidates in a statistical tie.

The sexual harassment charges against 3rd place candidate comptroller Scott Stringer, leave the more progressive vote up for grabs, making the Democratic primary in June more intriguing. Yang and Adams are both considered “liberal”, but the rest of the Democratic field is to the left of the front runners, including Ray McGuire, Maya Wiley, Kathryn Garcia, and Dianne Morales. With 3 far left women running, many “progressives” are excited about the possibilities of the first female mayor come November.
