(NEWSMAX)Rudy Giuliani, who has been leading President Donald Trump’s election legal challenges in multiple states, has tested positive for COVID-19, the president tweeted Sunday afternoon.

@RudyGiuliani, by far the greatest mayor in the history of NYC, and who has been working tirelessly exposing the most corrupt election (by far!) in the history of the USA, has tested positive for the China Virus. Get better soon Rudy, we will carry on!!!

ABC News reported that it had confirmed that Giuliani had been admitted to Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, D.C. The New York Times’ Maggie Haberman first reported the news.

Giuliani, 76, has been traveling to battleground states to appear at campaign events since the election. His son, Andrew, who works in the White House, two weeks ago tested positive for the coronavirus.

His age puts him at higher risk for serious complications from the virus. He is the latest in Trump’s inner circle to test positive for COVID-19. The president spent several days in the hospital in early October after he contracted the virus following a nomination ceremony for Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett in the Rose Garden.

Trump’s wife, Melania, and son, Barron, also contracted the virus. At least 40 in Trump’s inner circle have contracted COVID-19, including White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, political adviser Kellyanne Conway, Trump campaign adviser Corey Lewandowski and HUD Secretary Ben Carson.

Many of the individuals attended Coney Barrett’s nomination.
