On Sunday, a Long Island congressman spoke out to warn that the entire country may experience the chaos and crime now seen in New York City, if former Vice President Joe Biden is elected as president in November. “Everything is on the line,’’ said Republican US Representative Lee Zeldin on “The Cats Roundtable’’ radio show, referring to the upcoming presidential election. “For safety and security, for peace and prosperity — this is an election where the country that you want, you need to stand up and fight for. We can’t be silent,’’ he said.
“We can’t lose and allow a radical-left takeover of everything,’’ Zeldin said, days after Biden announced his selection of Senator Kamala Harris as his running mate. “We’re seeing how that played out in Manhattan, with New York City, all throughout the boroughs, with Bill de Blasio,’’ Zeldin said of the Democratic left-wing ideologies. Harris, a progressive California Senator elected in 2017, had formerly served as attorney general of California in 2010, being re-elected in 2014.
As reported by the NY Post, NYC has been combating sky-high homelessness and a rise in shootings, with residents bolting for the suburbs to get away. “We see it up in Albany right now with one-party rule,’’ Zeldin added, referring to Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo and his party’s control of both houses of the state legislature. “It’s all a warning shot of what one-party rule could look like in Washington if we don’t fight hard for the country that we love and fight hard for the country that we want,’’ the 40-year old Republican rep added. Zeldin had also endorsed Donald Trump as the Republican presidential nominee in the 2016 campaign.
Zeldin, also has his own election to worry about in 2020. Zeldin is out to win a fourth term, having served the 1st congressional district since 2015. His district incudes central and eastern Suffolk County, most of Smithtown, Brookhaven, Riverhead, Southold, Southampton, East Hampton and Shelter Island, New York. Zeldin had formerly served as a New York State Senator from the 3rd district from 2011 to 2014.
