Quote: “One of the forecasters said to me we were looking at a freight train coming across the country,” he said. “We’re now looking at a bullet train, because the numbers are going up that quickly.”
- New York State has over 25,000 cases of the virus, nearly 7 percent of the global total.
- Cuomo opened up the conference saying “the rate of anticipated increase” of the virus “has gone up. Cuomo added “The rate of infections is doubling about every three days”
- “We haven’t flattened the curve and the curve is actually increasing.”
- ” We are not slowing it and it’s accelerating on it’s own”
- That rate of increase, that apex, they anticipate could be approximately 14 to 21 days away,” Cuomo said. He went on to say “we’ve increased testing to the highest level in the country. We’re also trying all the new drug therapies.”
- “The emergency hospitals that we are building at Westbury and Stony Brook will be helpful,” Cuomo said. “But they’re nowhere near the number of beds we’ll need”
- The governor told the federal government he needs desperate help procuring desperately needed ventilators, as well as personal protective equipment and hospital beds. New York has procured about 7,000 ventilators, according to Cuomo, but needs an additional 30,000 ventilators, “at a minimum.”
- NY currently has 53K hospital beds and 3000 with ICU, ew projections show that NY needs 140K beds and 40K ICU beds- these numbers are higher than previously projected

- Cuomo urgently called on the federal government to authorize the Federal protection act and claimed the federal government has a stockpile of 20,000 ventilators and called on them to be released to NY immediately
