Dissociative Disorder

Dear Editor:

Am I the only one who feels they are suffering from the need to constantly disassociate in order to remain sane in our insane times? Dissociative disorders use dissociation as a survival mechanism. I turn on the TV, see that the History Channel is showing the Evils of the Nazis, of those who silently or actively supported Hitler’s death camps and extermination of all Jews. And then I pick up my newspaper and read about “Disturbing images emerged on Sunday of the annual carnival at Aalst, Belgium, showing an astounding number of antisemitic themes, costumes, displays and statements. Israeli journalist Raphael Ahren documented people dressed as caricatures of Orthodox Jews…blatantly antisemitic characters and puppets wearing traditional Jewish clothes and sporting huge noses. There was also video of attendees dressed in exaggerated imitations of clothing warn by Hasidic Jews with insect legs attached to their torsos.”

And a major mainstream newspaper, The Washington Post’s Feb. 25, 2020, “The latest target of racist rumors about coronavirus was initially accompanied by a picture of a visibly Jewish man. But as CAMERA pointed out to Post staff, depictions of Jews spreading diseases are a staple of antisemitic propaganda and have appeared throughout history, often resulting in anti-Jewish violence and discrimination. Indeed, as a Feb. 7, 2020 Times of Israel report noted: “The spread of and fear generated by the coronavirus has led extremists to promote conspiracy theories and share their anti-Semitic views.”

And this one: Images of Nazi soldiers, in a parade in Spain, “Israeli Embassy Rips ‘Vile’ Spanish Parade Show for ‘Banalizing’ Holocaust.”

So, how does one survive in 2020 with this normalizing of Jew hate disguised as anti Zionism, acceptance of spreading the same kinds of vicious stereotypes about Jews witnessed in 1930’s Germany? The silence and passivity of most American Jews perhaps belies their complete disassociation from their own selves instead of loudly proclaiming their disgust and protests in the form of picketing, marching, forming pro active groups to combat the storm coming at us.

If anyone has a better explanation, let us know.

Sincerely

Selma Koplowitz

Jones Uses Black History Month to Demonize Israel

Dear Editor:

Jimmy Jones, Exec. VP, The Islamic Seminary of America, in his Op-Ed, 2/9/2020, “Faith Matters”, New Haven Register, is nothing more than biased smears, masquerading as “faith,” and degrades us all by using the Holocaust to spew insidious anti Israel demonizations.

The so-called Palestinian Arabs have rejected every single fair and generous peace offer, and have never once put forth one counteroffer for peace. They were offered 97 percent of the so-called West Bank, all of East Jerusalem, during the Olmert and President Clinton Camp David Arafat peace offers, rejected all of it, and are now rejecting out of hand, the present peace offer on the table. Jones conveniently ignores these facts in favor of malicious labeling of Israel as an “oppressor” when the facts clearly show these Arabs are victims of their own making by rejecting Israel’s very existence.

The outrage and rebuttal of each of his smears were posted here: (https://www.nhregister.com/opinion/article/Letters-Reacting-to-Jimmy-Jones-column-15056662.php)

Some excerpts:

– “Jones’ piece about the Holocaust and current events in Israel is a thinly veiled attempt to equate the horrors of the Holocaust with the Jewish people’s ongoing and sometimes challenging quest to maintain a safe, secure, modern, fair and democratic Jewish state.”

-“Jimmy Jones has the nerve to compare Israel to the Nazis while pretending he isn’t. According to the definition by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance, that comparison is itself antisemitic. “

-”While Jones says he learned the lessons of the Holocaust his essay belies his words. He even has the temerity to compare a peace plan offering billions of dollars to the Palestinians to the Holocaust. Jones seems to relish misusing the word “oppression” to attack Zionists. However, it’s the terrorist organizations, the PLO and Hamas, that torture, oppress and unlawfully imprison their own people according to a United Nations report. Jones’ propaganda, disguised as an op/ed, would make all neo-Nazis proud.”

The New Haven Register should never have run this tainted piece by Jones. Freedom of speech is also the freedom not to print malicious smears, masquerading as “faith” which use the Holocaust to malign this tiny Jewish State, where Jews can flee when persecution rears its ugly head. They have been scattering us to the ends of the earth for centuries. I would suggest we all make better use of “faith” towards putting pressure on these Arabs to engage in good “faith” negotiations and work towards peace, instead of bashing Israel, the true victim in all of this.

Sincerely

Justin Schlossmeier

Schumer & the US Supreme Court

Dear Editor:

First, Senator Charles Schumer while speaking at the Sunnyside Queens St Patricks Day Parade that “President Donald Trump is not welcome in Queens.” He went on to support the Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual and Transgender community. Schumer’s hatred of Trump is so strong, that should Democratic Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders win his party’s nomination, he would enthusiastically endorse him, regardless of his less than friendly support for Israel. Next, Schumer speaking at a pro-choice abortion rally on the steps of the United States Supreme Court said about Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh said of them, “you have released the whirlwind, and you will pay the price. You will not know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions.”

Imagine if you are or I made such statements about the President or members of the Supreme Court. We would be visited by members of the President’s Secret Service or FBI. Perhaps Senator Schumer forgot about civil discourse in America. Democrat, Republican or Independent, Liberal or Conservative, we have a long held tradition of respect for our government institutions, be it the President or Supreme Court. Perhaps Schumer missed attending his civics class at James Madison Brooklyn High School, Harvard College and Harvard Law School.

Schumer’s continued arrogance “that it is my way or the highway” is disappointing to those who are looking for bipartisan cooperation and compromise. No wonder political gridlock continues in Washington. Perhaps Schumer is part of the problem as opposed to part of the solution. Voters should remember this in 2022 when he stands for re-election..

Sincerely,

Larry Penner
