In the world of backbiting celebrities, the people you hate the most are those who won’t agree to hate the other people you hate.
Case in point: Dylan Farrow, who has made a career of claiming she was raped by Woody Allen, is now angry at actress Scarlett Johansson.
The Avengers actress said during an interview in The Hollywood Reporter that she believes the director when he denies having molested his adopted daughter Farrow when she was 7 years old.
“I love Woody,” Johannson said. “I believe him, and I would work with him anytime
Farrow “took to social media and publicly aired her disappointment with the Marvel star. She framed her disgust by referencing the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements — which Johansson has publicly supported in recent years,” the New York Daily News has reported.
Farrow tweeted, “Because if we’ve learned anything from the past two years it’s that you definitely should believe male predators who “maintain their innocence” without question. Scarlett has a long way to go in understanding the issue she claims to champion.”
“In 2014, Farrow, whose mother is actress Mia Farrow, wrote an open letter in The New York Times, detailing for the first time in public what she allegedly went through,” the Daily News reported. “I was seven years old, Woody Allen took me by the hand and led me into a dim, closet-like attic on the second floor of our house,” she wrote. “He told me to lay on my stomach and play with my brother’s electric train set. Then he sexually assaulted me. He talked to me while he did it, whispering that I was a good girl, that this was our secret, promising that we’d go to Paris and I’d be a star in his movies.”
Farrow has also displayed rage at other celebrities who have failed to hate Allen. She tweeted, for example, “What if it had been your child, Cate Blanchett? Louis CK? Alec Baldwin? What if it had been you, Emma Stone? Or you, Scarlett Johansson? You knew me when I was a little girl, Diane Keaton. Have you forgotten me?”
“As noted in her Hollywood Reporter profile, Johansson has been involved in the Time’s Up movement since its early days. But in Allen’s case, she said, “I see Woody whenever I can, and I have had a lot of conversations with him about it. I have been very direct with him, and he’s very direct with me. He maintains his innocence, and I believe him,” vanityfair.com reported.
“It’s hard because it’s a time where people are very fired up, and understandably,” Johansson added—alluding to the current environment in which, as THR puts it, “there is a new and powerful emphasis on believing women’s allegations,” vanityfair.com continued. “Things needed to be stirred up,” Johansson continued, “and so people have a lot of passion and a lot of strong feelings and are angry, and rightfully so. It’s an intense time.”
