After Apologizing, Actress Susan Sarandon Reverts Back to Her Anti-Israel, Pro-Hamas Stance

Edited by: Fern Sidman

Renowned Hollywood actress and political activist Susan Sarandon has found herself embroiled in a web of controversy, facing backlash for her recent remarks on social media regarding Israel and her support for Hamas terrorists, as was recently reported on The Algemeiner.com website.  This comes just weeks after she was dropped by her talent agency and lost a potential acting job due to offensive comments about Jews and Israel.

Sarandon’s recent social media activity has been marked by a series of posts and retweets that have drawn significant criticism. The Alegemeiner.com report said that on Sunday, she retweeted a video from a pro-Palestinian rally in Boston, where protesters chanted slogans calling to “globalize the intifada,” referring to an armed uprising against Israel. The rally also featured signs demanding an end to all US aid to Israel and accusing the Jewish state of genocide.

Sarandon has reposted messages that falsely accuse Israel of committing genocide and war crimes. Some of these posts claim that Israel is “assassinating Palestinian journalists,” while another boldly declares, “The world has a right for Israel not to exist,” according to the report on the Algemeiner.com web site. These statements have fueled tensions and drawn condemnation from various quarters.

The far left-wing actress has faced criticism for reposting a tweet on December 12 that described Hamas terrorists as “resistance fighters” and sought to justify their attacks. As was noted in the report on the Algemeiner.com web site, the post argued that the “right to armed struggle is a guaranteed right under international law” for individuals living under what it termed “illegal Israeli occupation.” Sarandon’s apparent support for such views has added fuel to the fire of controversy.

Sarandon has been openly critical of Israel’s military campaign against Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip throughout the Israel-Hamas war. As per the Algemeiner.com report, at a “Free Palestine” rally last month, she accused Israel of war crimes and drew parallels between Hamas’ actions in southern Israel and the situation in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip. Sarandon also addressed the exponential escalation in global anti-Semitism, drawing connections between the fear faced by American Jews and the experiences of Muslims subjected to violence, the report on the Algemeiner.com web site added.

She said, , “There are a lot of people afraid of being Jewish at this time, and are getting a taste of what it feels like to be a Muslim in this country, so often subjected to violence.”

The fallout from Sarandon’s controversial remarks has been swift. United Talent Agency dropped the actress following her comments, and an indie film production company publicly stated that it would no longer collaborate with her, according to the Algemeiner.com report. These professional repercussions underscore the severity of the situation and the impact of her statements on her career.

On December 1, Sarandon issued an apology for the comments she made about Jews at the “Free Palestine” rally but notably did not address her remarks about Israel, the Algemeiner.com report said. The apology seemingly failed to quell the controversy surrounding the actress, with her continued social media activity perpetuating the criticism.

As the actress remains embroiled in this ongoing saga, the broader implications of celebrities using their platforms to express political views continue to be a topic of discussion and debate.
