The son of former NYPD police commissioner is being moved to a detective squad — just 18 months after stepping out of the Police Academy, local NY media reported.

NY Daily News Tom Tracy reports:

An internal department memo shared with The News notes that Police Officer Richard Shea, the son of Police Commissioner Dermot Shea, will be transferred from patrol to the 23rd Precinct detective squad, effective Monday.

Shea joined the department in November 2020 and completed his six months at the police academy May 10, 2021, according to his NYPD officer profile.

Since he began working his beat as a patrolman, he’s racked up 32 arrests. He’s also received no awards and no additional training, NY Post explained.

Dermont Shea is a former American police officer and administrator who was the 44th New York City Police Commissioner. He assumed the position on December 1, 2019 and was sworn in by Mayor Bill de Blasio in a public ceremony on December 2.

Shea started his career in law enforcement with his appointment to the New York City Police Academy in late 1990. After graduating in the top 10% of his academy class, he was sworn in as a Patrolman in April 1991 and assigned to the South Bronx, Daily News previously reported

Shea worked veery hard, and the crime explosion which began under extremist, left wing woke radical Mayor de Blasio, can not be attributed to the commissioner.

Shea wrote a powerful opinion piece which was widely published in January of 2020, he lashed out against liberal bail reform, and this was all before the woke explosing of radicalism which really took flight after the death of George Floyd.

Dermont Shea warned:

New York is now the only state in the nation that requires judges to entirely disregard the threat to public safety posed by accused persons in determining whether to hold them pending trial or to impose conditions for their release. In addition, the new law constrains judges from holding repeat offenders with long records of both crime and absconding trial. It eliminates cash bail and the possibility of detention for a wide array of offenses, including weapons possession, trafficking of fentanyl and other drugs, many hate-crime assaults, the promotion of child prostitution, serial arson, and certain burglaries and robberies.

According to our calculation, 738 people arrested on burglary and robbery charges in 2018 would have been released without bail or remand under the new law, despite the fact that their collective records comprise 9,926 arrests for crimes including 1,134 robberies, 891 assaults, 524 burglaries, 334 weapons charges, 48 sex crimes (including 15 rapes), and 25 murders or attempted murders. These are not the types of offenders who should be freed to continue their criminal activity. Judges should assess their risk to public safety.

Shea Dermont tried to warn the city, but it fell on deaf ears, as extremist, woke, pro-crime radicalism became the latest trend among young radicals, many who make up the city council.

After some training, Officer Richard Shea will be promoted to detective third grade in 18 months, the department said. The bump will come three years after he graduated the academy, Daily News explained.

This quick promotion has caused some to claim it is an act of nepotism.

NY Post reported:

The fast-tracked promotion of a rookie fresh out of the police academy to an investigative unit is virtually unheard of — with the move to detective rarely occurring before at least three years, sources said.
