Thousands of Gerrer Chassidim attended the Chasunah of a grandson of the Gerrer Rebbe on Monday evening, as was reported by Yeshiva World News.

The Chupa was held in front of the Gerrer Bais Medrash on Yirmiyahu Street in Yerushalayim, and was attended by well over 10,000 Chassidim.

The YWN report indicated that the Mesader Kedushin was the Gerrer Rebbe. Other Kibudim were given to the Sephardic Chief Rabbi, Hagaon HaRav Yitzchak Yosef, Hagoan HaRav Boruch Mordechai Ezrachi, the Rachmastrivka Rebbe, the Makava Rov, Former Ashkenaz Chief Rabbi Lau, and Rav Landau, the Chief Rabbi of Bnei Brak.

In August of 2021, it was reported that ten days after receiving the third dose of the Covid-19 vaccine in the US, from where he returned after his granddaughter’s wedding there, the Gerer Rebbe had tested positive for the coronavirus.

The Rebbe had spent several weeks in the US, where his granddaughter’s wedding was held at the Vizhnitzer Bais Medrash in Monsey.

In August, it was also reported that Rabbi Yitzchok Meir Gutman, Gur’s Talmudic Torah supervisor, informed parents that children from the age of 12 and up can daven in the main Gur bais midrash on Rosh Hashanah only with a Covid recovery certificate or a serological examination, with a special bracelet for entry. Adults will need a green badge and possibly bracelets.

Ger is a Polish Hasidic dynasty originating from the town of Góra Kalwaria, Poland, where it was founded by Yitzchak Meir Alter (1798–1866) known as the “Chiddushei HaRim,” as was reported by Wikipedia. Ger is a branch of Peshischa Hasidism, as Yitzchak Meir Alter was a leading disciple of Simcha Bunim of Peshischa (1765–1827).

Wikipedia reported that before the Holocaust, followers of Ger were estimated to number in excess of 100,000, making it the largest and most influential Hasidic group in Poland. Today, the movement is based in Jerusalem, and its membership is estimated at 11,859 families as of 2016, most of whom live in Israel, making Ger the largest Hasidic dynasty in Israel. However, there are also well-established Ger communities in the United States and in Europe. In 2019, some 300 families of followers led by Shaul Alter, split off from the dynasty led by his cousin Yaakov Aryeh Alter.

The group’s headquarters is located in Jerusalem. During and after the British Mandate, the group’s beth midrash was at the Sfas Emes Yeshiva, near Mahane Yehuda. Later on, the synagogue moved to Ralbach Street in the Geula neighborhood, and in the late 1990s, the Great Beth Midrash Gur was inaugurated on Yirmeyahu Street, near the Schneller Orphanage complex. In 2015, an extension to the building was begun, and on Rosh Hashanah 2018 (5779), the second wing of the Beth Medrash was inaugurated. In 2022, the building was finished when the two wings were joined, making it the largest synagogue in the world, with the main sanctuary seating up to 20,000, and having an area of approximately 35,000 m2 (380,000 sq ft).

Israeli Police Admit Spying on Israeli Citizens, Say it Was ‘Legal’

Phone hacking/Illustrative (Hillel Maeir/TPS)

The police did not deny that it spied on citizens, as reported in Calcalist, but denies that it was done illegally.

By: Aryeh Savir

The Israel Police is denying it illegally used espionage tools developed by the NSO Company to track citizens.

According to a bombshell report by Calcalist, the Israel Police uses NSO’s Pegasus spyware to remotely hack into the phones of Israeli citizens without proper search or tapping orders. The operations were carried out by the Special Operations Team in the police Signet cyber unit, which activities are secretive.

According to the report, NSO’s Pegasus system was purchased by the police in December 2013, during the tenure of Commissioner Yohanan Danino, and became operational during the period of the subsequent commissioner, Roni Alsheikh.

Following the publication, the police stated Tuesday that “there is no basis for the allegations in the article.”

“All police activity in this area is in accordance with the law, on the basis of court orders and strict work procedures. In this area, there are increased supervision and control systems within and outside the organization,” the statement said.

“We are sorry for the attempt to cause damage to police activities without basis. The Israel Police will continue to act resolutely to enforce the law in the State of Israel,” it added.

The police did not deny that it spied on citizens but said that the tapping was done legally.

Minister of Internal Security Omer Barlev claimed that he checked into the issue and found that “there is no practice of wiretapping, or intrusion into devices by the Israel Police without the approval of a judge.”

“At the same time, I intend to make sure that there is no ’rounding of corners’ on the subject of NSO and that everything is checked and approved by a judge to the finest details,” he added.

Member of Knesset Merav Ben Ari, chair of the Knesset Internal Security Committee, announced she will schedule an emergency discussion on findings.

NSO’s software has become notorious in recent years after being used by oppressive regimes to track dissidents and political opponents.

Israeli Egoz Unit Resumes Training After Deadly Friendly Fire Incident

IDF unit which lost 2 commanders in friendly fire shooting last week resumes operational activity as Chief of Staff visits.

The Egoz special forces unit resumed training Tuesday after all activity was halted in response to a friendly fire incident in which two company commanders were killed last week.

IDF Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi visited the unit in the Upper Galilee today and held a dialogue with the unit’s commanders and soldiers about the deadly incident and the obligation to conduct professional and thorough investigation as a condition for progress.

The chief of staff told the soldiers: “Last week the unit experienced a very difficult incident in which we lost two excellent commanders. Losing a soldier as a lieutenant colonel and losing a soldier or officer as a chief of staff or commander-in-chief is the same thing, my heart was heavy that night just like your heart was. We must do everything we can to prevent such incidents and conduct a thorough investigation.”

“The Egoz unit is a strong and professional unit, composed of quality and experienced people, I understand the difficult feelings and at the same time–you must take this difficult event and come out stronger, all of you together. Egoz was an excellent unit, and I trust that following this event you will be even more excellent,” he said.

The commander of the Egoz unit, Lt. Col. A., added, “The unit like [its namesake] the walnut–is hard and tough on the outside and soft with a heart of gold on the inside. A unit with strong mental fortitude, whose soldiers and commanders are characterized by exceptional resilience and are capable of complex combat challenges. Despite the difficulty in losing commanders and close friends, we are returning to training and operational activities this week.”

“The unit is saddened by the loss of two of its commanders, the best of the best, the late Major Ofek Aharon and the late Major Itamar Elharar. The entire IDF and the Egoz unit in particular share in the grief of the bereaved families, support them and will continue to accompany them. The Egoz unit will continue to lead complex and covert operational activities in the various sectors in order to ensure the security of Israel’s residents in both routine and emergency situations,” he concluded.

Haredi MK: ‘Everything Open’ if Netanyahu Quits Politics

Haredi MK Uri Maklev says there will be ‘shock waves’ if former PM Netanyahu quits politics. ‘Everything will be open–you know how many options there could be?’

By: INN Staff

MK Uri Maklev (United Torah Judaism) on Tuesday morning spoke about his party’s options if former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agrees to a plea bargain and retires from political life.

In an interview with Kol Hai Radio, Maklev avoided the question of whether the haredi parties would join the current government but said, “If Netanyahu leaves, then there will be shock waves in the political system, and everything will be open. You know how many options there could be?”

He added that Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Foreign Minister Yair Lapid (Yesh Atid) “are trying to send a message that their government will continue as usual–it’s not certain that this stability will remain. We are waiting for developments.”

Regarding the government’s failure to pass the Draft Law, Maklev said he hopes the coalition will break apart from within.

“What happened yesterday has internal significance for the coalition,” he explained. “It’s a recipe for cracks within the coalition–what we’ve been wishing for the entire time, that it should break apart from within. Yesterday, that same MK did not announce that she would vote against it. That means that they, more and more, are finding themselves in votes that depend on a single vote, with the Joint Arab List voting with us, against them.”

Regarding the United Arab List’s (Ra’am) decision to vote in favor of the Draft Law, Maklev said, “What’s worrisome about Ra’am is that they left their internal ideology, and they are supporting laws that they never voted on in the past.”

When asked about the status of yeshiva students, he said, “The State’s response to the Supreme Court will be that the bill failed to pass, and I assume that they will receive another extension. They can bring it [for a vote] again very quickly.”

Israel, US Test ‘Arrow 3’ Space Missile Capable of Downing Satellites

Israel Aerospace Industries holds joint flight test with Defense Ministry, US Missile Defense Agency of space-capable Arrow 3 missile.

On Tuesday, the Israel Missile Defense Organization (IMDO) of the Directorate of Defense Research and Development (DDR&D) in Israel’s Ministry of Defense, together with the U.S. Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and the Israeli Defense Forces, conducted a successful flight test of the Arrow Weapon System (AWS) and the Arrow 3 interceptor, which is designed to intercept ballistic missiles outside of the earth’s atmosphere. Experts have suggested the missile could also be used to destroy satellites in orbit.

The test was performed at a test site in central Israel, and led by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI).

AWS operational radars array detected the target and transferred data to the battle management control (BMC), which analyzed the data and established a defense plan. After the defense plan was established, two Arrow-3 interceptors were launched toward the target and successfully completed the mission.

Defense Minister Benny Gantz: “I commend the successful outcome of the recent flight test – Israel’s defense establishment and industries continue to develop some of the world’s most advanced systems. With every step forward, with every development, we equip the State of Israel with the capabilities to defend itself against developing threats. Our systems provide Israel with the freedom to maneuver strategically.”

Along with the IMDO, representatives of the MDA, Israeli Air Force and industries involved in AWS development, participated in the test.

IAI is the primary contractor for the development of the Arrow Weapon System and Arrow interceptors. MLM designs, develops and produces the Arrow interceptors, and Elta, a subsidiary of IAI, develops the radar detection array. Elisra, a subsidiary of Elbit Systems, develops the BMC. BOEING Company, TOMER and RAFAEL are the main subcontractors for the development and production of the Arrow 3 interceptor. RAFAEL designs and develops the target.

“This test was designed to challenge every element of the Arrow Weapon System, and it performed beautifully. Data collected from this test guide future development of the AWS,” said MDA Director Vice Adm. Jon Hill. “MDA remains committed to assisting the Government of Israel in upgrading its missile defense capability against current and emerging threats.”

Chief of the IDF General Staff, Lt. Gen. Aviv Kohavi: “The IDF and Israel’s defense establishment see great importance in constantly upgrading and improving our air defense capabilities. The test conducted this morning is another element in our ability to respond to developing threats in the region, and is a part of the implementation of the IDF’s multi-year plan.”

Head of the Directorate for Defense Research and Development (DDR&D) in the Israel Ministry of Defense, Brig. Gen. (Res.) Dr. Dani Gold: “This groundbreaking test reflects a significant leap forward in the capabilities of the defense establishment to develop in the face of emerging regional threats and to adapt for the future battlefield. The DDR&D and partnering industries will continue spearheading Israel’s technological advance to maintain our national security.”

IMDO Director, Moshe Patel: “Today we successfully completed a complicated flight test of the Arrow Weapon System and the Arrow 3 interceptor. The Israel Ministry of Defense continues its efforts to enhance and to upgrade Israel’s multi-tier missile defense capabilities against emerging threats in the region.

Journalist Launches Crowdfund for Bibi Legal Defense, Raises Almost 2M Shekels Within Hours

Netanyahu crowdfunding campaign (Twitter/Screen grab)

Yinon Magal calls on public to donate funds for former premier’s legal battle.

By: WIN Staff

A right-wing journalist and staunch defender of former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu launched a crowdfunding campaign for his legal defense on Sunday, inviting members of the public to donate cash.

“Friends, here it is – a crowdfunding page to raise money to cover Netanyahu’s legal expenses. He is not alone – and this is the least we can do to show him that we’re there for him. I’ve made my donation,” Channel 14 reporter Yinon Magal announced on his social media accounts.

Within a few hours, the campaign raised close to two million shekels.

Magal, a veteran journalist who once served in the Knesset as part of current prime minister Naftali Bennett’s former political party, the Jewish Home, has been an outspoken advocate for Netanyahu.

He noted that he had not discussed the crowdfunding campaign with Netanyahu before the launch. “I didn’t ask him for his opinion,” the ex-Walla News editor wrote.

“I just figured that even for someone wealthy, expenses that can mount into the tens of millions are not easy to bear and could become a factor in deciding how to act. And as a person who believes that he is there fighting for me, too, it’s the least I could do.”

In September 2020, Magal was criticized for a particularly colorful description of the way he said Netanyahu should be managing what he referred to as incessant media persecution.

“If I were [Netanyahu], long ago I would have pulled out a submachine gun and shot — I don’t want to say at all of you, not you, but the rest of you — brrrrrr, bursts of bullets, like Rocky, like Rambo, with the ammo belt going down,” he told his co-host Ben Caspit during a broadcast on Radio 103 FM.

He added that journalists were busy “crucifying” Netanyahu, while ignoring other pressing matters in favor of mudslinging at the then-premier.

While some journalists decried Magal’s remarks as incitement to violence, he dismissed the criticism and said his statements were clearly satirical.

US No Longer Supports Israel’s Gas Pipeline to Europe

EastMed pipeline said to be economically and environmentally unviable and politically “destabilising.”

By: David Hellerman

U.S. officials have notified Israel, Greece and Cyprus that Washington no longer supports a joint gas pipeline intended to supply Europe with natural gas. Greek media reports, which broke the story, cited a U.S. “non-document” or unofficial position paper which characterized the EastMed pipeline as a “primary source of tension” and something “destabilising” the region because of Turkish opposition.

The joint pipeline, a $6.8 billion initiative, was expected to provide Europe with ten percent of its energy needs, reducing the continent’s dependence on Russian natural gas.

A widely cited Reuters report quoted a source who said, “The American side expressed to the Greek side reservations as to the rationale of the EastMed pipeline, (and) raised issues of its economic viability and environmental (issues).”

In 2018, Israel signed an agreement with Italy, Greece, and Cyprus to lay the mostly underwater gas pipeline. Running from the Israel’s Leviathan gas field to Italy via a Cypriot gas field, Crete and the Greek mainland, the EastMed pipeline planned to traverse 1,900 kilometers (1,242 miles). The project won U.S. support in 2019.

The pipeline was supposed to be operational in 2025 and eventually carry 10 billion cubic meters of gas to Europe annually.

Media reports say the initiative has not secured funding. None of the EastMed partner countries have publicly commented on what Washington’s position means for the pipeline’s future.

Turkey, which doesn’t recognize Cyprus as a nation, claims the island and its offshore resources for itself, and opposed the endeavor. On numerous occasions, the Turkish Navy harassed Israeli and Cypriot vessels doing exploratory work.

The EastMed project was also competing with a Russian-Turkish pipeline, the Turkstream, which began delivering gas to Europe in 2020.

On Tuesday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told reporters, “If [Israeli gas] would be brought to Europe, it could only be done through Turkey,” according to a transcript released by Erdogan’s office. “Is there any hope for now? We can sit and talk about the conditions.”

The pipeline also faced the formidable geophysical challenges of passing through very deep water, sometimes at depths of 3 kilometers (1.8 miles) in an area known for seismic activity.

The FBI Drops the Ball on Texas Terrorist

FBI Special Agent in Charge, Matt DeSarno, initially said, “the hostage taker was specifically focused on an issue not directly connected to the Jewish community.” Photo Credit: fbi.gov

It’s old hat news now, the hostage taking at the Beth Israel synagogue in Colleyville, Texas by a recently arrived Muslim terrorist, a British national, and our take on this story is that it will disappear from the Jew/Israel hating media and news pages within days or even hours. “Just another story about Jews being attacked. Nothing new.” Most probably the Feds, our law enforcing departments such as the FBI, Homeland Security, ICE and the Attorney General will put this case on the back burner and hope that no one disturbs their relentless rooting out of the “White Supremacists” who are threatening to take over our country. We got the clue of deception from reality from FBI Special Agent in Charge, Matt DeSarno, when he initially said, “the hostage taker (Muslim/English national,) was specifically focused on an issue not directly connected to the Jewish community.”

An obvious, overt, obscene, dastardly, direct move to deflect the issue becoming “a Jewish one.” Stephen Miller said it best: “Armed (radical Muslim) guy takes Jewish hostages at synagogue during religious services demanding the release of an anti-Semite convicted terrorist is a mystery they can’t solve.” Roz Rothstein, co-founder and CEO of the Israel education group, StandWithUs, called the FBI’s original statement, “insulting and disappointing.” No matter the fallout when all is done in this investigation, if ever, the initial response of our government is that terror against American Jews has to be covered up. And for good measure, another dumb-ass Democrat law enforcement official, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, a Progressive Jew of course, suggested on the night of the incident at Beth Israel, that “White supremacy” could be to blame for the attack by a British Muslim seeking the release of another Muslim terrorist. The patented Obama attitude is back. Idiocy. You can’t make this up.

What’s disturbing is that the Council of American Islamic Relation (CAIR), the national Muslim Brotherhood offshoot group that ridiculously identifies itself as an American Muslim Civil Rights group, recently supported the release from federal prison of the female terrorist for whom the Texas shul invader used as an excuse for his terrorist actions. And a major Democrat women’s leader, Linda Sarsour, was outspoken in support of Dr. Aaflia Siddiqui’s freedom. Back in November of 2021, the CAIR Texas office held a Facebook live discussion on the campaign, led by Sarsour, to free Siddiqui. A coincidence? What assistance, if any, did this group give to the Texas terrorist in funding, housing and local travel information? We don’t know and we doubt that the feds will investigate. It’s a rather sad situation when you don’t have faith in the honesty and integrity of this major criminal prevention and investigation unit of our government…the FBI to root out Jew haters.

For instance, the terrorist must have had run-ins with the British authorities while living in England. Didn’t his recent entry into this country raise any terrorist/red flag warnings? Why not? Recall that the brothers who were the Boston Marathon bombers had just returned from Russia before their act of terror and our Homeland Security was warned of their entry…. and did nothing. A British family member of the Texas terrorist just claimed his brother suffered from mental disorders. So why was he permitted to deplane and how did he acquire a deadly weapon so quickly? And how and why did he die at the synagogue. Shot by authorities, suicide or what? Did he attempt to surrender? Will we ever find out? So many unanswered questions concerning the actions and focus of our FBI law enforcement authorities together with doubts about their veracity, lead us to believe that the safety of Jews in this country is in deep jeopardy. We’re uneasy. We have little faith in those whose job it is to see to our security.

Biden Encourages Hate In America

President Joe Biden speaking at Morehouse College in Atlanta last week. Photo Credit: AP

Joe Biden’s speeches are never much to write home about, but the one he gave last Tuesday at historically black, Morehouse College in Atlanta, was a disaster for him, his party and for his push for congressional overhaul that he falsely describes as, “voters’ rights.” It was vulgar, disgusting, repugnant and filled with lies. Even Wall Street Journal’s Peggy Noonan, not a fan of anything right of center, wrote that it was, “a seminal moment in the history of an administration. It was a disaster.”

We’ll add; it was a crazy rant. Biden’s year long presidency, already tottering, has now crashed. In his attempt to have Congress support two massive Democrat voting bills that would make D.C. the master of election rules, over-riding states, doing away with voter ID’s, and the current Senate Filibuster Rule, he labeled all opponents of the bills as domestic “enemies” on the same level as the most bigoted figures in American history. Shameful.

“Do you want to be on the side of Dr. Martin Luther King or (Governor) George Wallace? Do you want to be on the side of John Lewis or Bull Connor? Do you want to be on the side of Abraham Lincoln or Jefferson Davis?” he asked the crowd and the stunned international viewing audience. The writers of his speech, probably educated in the top universities in the land obviously were not aware that all three of those bigots mentioned above, were staunch Democrats.

All followers of the KKK, the white supremacist group, whose policies Wallace, Connor and Davis all advocated and which was the major component of the Southern Democrats (Biden’s party, by the way) until the mid 60’s. In fact back in 1975, Joe Biden stated, “I think the Democratic Party could stand a liberal George Wallace–someone who’s not afraid to stand up and offend people, someone who wouldn’t pander but would say what the American people know in their gut is right.” Wallace, Alabama’s former governor’s slogan was “Segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever!” A hint that Biden’s memory is not functioning.

Biden, through his handlers, is pushing for full scale mail-in balloting and the removal of photo ID requirements at the polls. He wants to permit campaign workers to lawfully collect mail-in ballots from voters’ homes and deliver them to the counters on the honor system. If you question this practice, you’re on the level of a Bull Connor, who sicked dogs on blacks who, in real life was elected to represent Alabama on the Democratic National Committee. If you’re for voter ID, the same requirement to get vaxxed for Covid-19, to fly on every airline, or to drive a car, you’re a “white supremacist” and for “vote suppression,” pure and simple. Stupid, arrogant and dangerous stances for an ordinary citizen and Biden sits in the White House.

Joe also declared in his speech that our democracy is in crisis unless the Senate Filibuster, the rule requiring 60 of its members to vote to end debate and move to a vote is removed, and thereby permitting a mere 50 votes to be required to pass all legislation in this chamber. That would give now Biden’s Democrat Party complete rule with both houses and the presidency in their control BEFORE the 2022 elections.

If you’re against this massive change, you’re on the level of a KKK member. At this point, neither the ID requirement to vote or the change in the Senate Filibuster rule is in any danger. Biden is playing into the party’s lunatic base. In simple terms, he’s either a liar, dishonest, politically incompetent, or all three rolled up into one package. Your pick.

Letters to the Editor

New Yorkers Must Wake Up!

Dear Editor:

Your editorial on the new Manhattan DA hit the nail on the head. It’s time for all New Yorkers to either wake up to the reality of whites being treated as “lower classes,” or get out of town. The likes of Al Sharpton and the BLM thugs rule the town. But the votes to support these haters have to come from whites and Hispanics, who are in the majority in the city. Why do these groups vote repeatedly against their own safety and welfare? The City Council is composed of a bunch of Left Wing lunatics who have bankrupted the city, yet they continue to rule. Look at the re-election of AOC. And for sure, she’ll run against and beat Schumer next year. Chuck, an ass-kisser to the radicals for years will see what loyalty these people have. As you conclude in many of your editorials, “Wake up now!”

$6 Billion Grant for MTA

Dear Editor:

There is more to Senator Schumer’s announcement that the Federal Transit Administration released a $6 billion dollar grant to the MTA for CARE COVID-19 relief. This grant brings the total amount of CARE COVID-19 relief funding from Washington for the MTA to $14 billion. What Schumer neglected to mention was how much of these funds have been paid for rather than how much have been borrowed adding to our $29 trillion and growing national debt. He said “it is a public service and the higher percentage we get from city, state and federal help the better.”

Funding for the MTA has always been a four way partnership between what riders pay at the farebox along with city, state and federal funding. Commuters and Washington always ante up. Will Schumer hold one of his press conferences to ask Governor Kathy Hochul, Comptroller Tom DiNapoli, State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Steward Cousins and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie to increase Albany’s contribution? Will he also ask NYC Mayor Eric Adams, Comptroller Brad Ladner, and NYC Council Speaker Adrienne Adams increase City Hall’s contribution? Schumer never explained why many other transit agencies around the nation already received their second and third rounds of funding ahead of the MTA.

Mask Edicts from the White House

Dear Editor:

What’s with all these edicts coming out of the White House regarding the use of masks, inoculations and the debasement of those who do not wish to get jabbed or who have breathing problems wearing what we now know, are useless face coverings? The President knows nothing of diseases and, I must say, less of what it takes to govern. He and Kamala once told us they both would never take medications that Trump had anything to do with. Now they’re both pushing for these same medications? And Fauci told us two years ago that masks were useless. To back up this claim he himself now ignores, look at the celebrities pushing masks for all of us but who are pictured, at fancy festivities, going “face naked.” Let’s face it, we’re all being sold a politically motivated bulls—t story for means of control only.

Questioning UK Authorities

Dear Editor:

The terrorist who held Jews hostage in Texas was most probably known as such by British authorities. Did they notify American immigration officials of the nature of this guy? How did he get in this country? When will we get answers to these questions? Who will press for this information? When will we get it? Who knows?

Security for Jewish Establishments

Dear Editor:

Will every synagogue, yeshiva and kosher retail establishment now be in danger of another terrorist doing his or her thing by holding them hostage for some crazy demand? Where is the Jewish leadership of our communities in holding seminars or forums about this old but now recent threat? We need more groups like the old JDL to protect us an teach us how to respond on our own. We have to stick by one another now more than ever. Mostly we have to wake up to the threats to all of us, Democrats and Republicans. They’re after us no matter if we’re religious or not, or what our party affiliations are. We are all targets.

The Problems with Our Public Schools

Dear Editor:

What happens to students who missed over two years of schooling in our public schools? Have they been promoted to the next grade without fulfilling the requirements to do so? Have last year’s junior high school seniors been graduated to high schools? How have colleges admitted kids who never fulfilled last year’s high school senior educations? Will the next few years under education of our kids be reflected in a dumber class of professionals in the near future? Does this hold true for future medical and other top professions? Who is telling us?

Texas Synagogue Terrorist Came Out of UK Islamist No-Go Zone

The Blackburn Muslim Community page announced that “Faisal Akram has sadly departed from this temporary world” and prayed that Allah “bless him with the highest ranks of Paradise”.

His community hopes Allah will “bless him with the highest ranks of Paradise”.

By: Daniel Greenfield

As far back as 2013, Pakistani Muslim terrorists had plotted to take “foreign Jews” hostage to trade for ‘Lady Al Qaeda’. In 2022, a Pakistani Muslim terrorist actually went out and did it.

The hostage crisis at Congregation Beth Israel, a Reform Temple in Texas, ended with Faisal Akram of Blackburn, another post-industrial English town where Muslims make up a third of the population and Pakistanis account for over 10 percent, dead, and his Jewish hostages set free.

Back home, the Blackburn Muslim Community page announced that “Faisal Akram has sadly departed from this temporary world” and prayed that Allah “bless him with the highest ranks of Paradise”.

The BMC page had previously promoted a “charity” event to raise money for “Palestinians” by the Human Relief Foundation, which had been banned by Israel over its ties to Hamas.

The town has produced no shortage of Jihadists, including the youngest terrorist in the UK, as well as a number of Jihadis who traveled to join ISIS, an associate of shoe bomber Richard Reid, and a terrorist who played a key role in an Al Qaeda plot that targeted New York and D.C.

Blackburn is one of the most segregated towns in the country and has been described as a “no-go zone”. The area that produced the Temple Terrorist has the highest Muslim population outside of London where some claim that flying the English flag has been effectively outlawed.

The setting couldn’t be any better for the media to whitewash the murderous terrorist with the familiar excuses that he was the victim of failed integration in the United Kingdom. His family, in an even more familiar excuse, is claiming that he “was suffering from mental health issues”.

That, along with the claim by FBI Special Agent in Charge Matt DeSarno that the terrorist, “was singularly focused on one issue, and it was not specifically related to the Jewish community”, is becoming the very familiar narrative for covering up the latest Muslim terror attack.

But antisemitism, like Islamism, was part of the air that Faisal Akram breathed in Blackburn.

Salim Mulla, Blackburn’s former mayor and current Labour councilor, claimed that Israel was behind ISIS and school shootings in America. Last year, four Muslim men from Blackburn took part in a “Palestinian” convoy while shouting, “F*** the Jews… F*** all of them. F*** their mothers, f*** their daughters and show your support for Palestine. Rape their daughters and we have to send a message like that. Please do it for the poor children in Gaza.”

Siddiqui aka Lady Al Qaeda, on whose behalf the Texas synagogue attack took place, was married to the nephew of 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, and had assorted recipes for mass murder in her possession when she was captured. Despite graduating from Brandeis, a formerly Jewish university, she demanded at her trial that jurors undergo DNA tests to prove that they are not Jewish. And the Aafia Foundation posted bizarre antisemitic rants about the “degree of poisonous venum (sic) within the heart of American mainstream jewry”.

The hatred of Jews, like the hatred of all non-Muslims, is a crucial motive for Islamic terrorism.

If Blackburn is a miserable place, the tale of the Akram family may reveal why. The official family statement by the terrorist’s brother, Gulbar Akram, claims that “although my brother was suffering from mental health issues we were confident that he would not harm the hostages” and denied that the FBI had rescued the hostages from being killed by his brother. “Don’t believe the bull#### in the media they were released from the fire exit and Not rescued.”

The Blackburn Community message describes the terrorist as having brothers named “Gulbar”, “Malik” and the “Late Gulzameer Akram”.

Two brothers named Gulbar Akram and Gulzameer Akram in Blackburn had been locked up over stolen cars. Another time, a Blackburn resident named Gulbar Akram almost had his nose sliced off. A Gulzameer Akram ran a massive counterfeiting operation from a Blackburn home. A Malik Akram was locked up for harassing girls. Were all of them members of the same clan?

The best way to cover up a terrorist attack is to shift the context. And that’s what they’re doing. But it’s important to dig into the true context to understand the true origins of the Texas attack.

In his book, Among the Mosques, ex-Islamist Ed Husain described Blackburn as “another global hub for the Deobandis and the Tableeghi Jamaat” where the mosques pray for the destruction of the enemies of Islam and texts declare that “there can be no reconciliation between Islam and democracy”.

The Deobandis, who control many of the mosques in Blackburn, originated the Taliban.

Aafia Siddiqui, better known as ‘Lady Al Qaeda’, is a Deobandi, the terrorist on whose behalf Faisal Akram took a synagogue hostage, and a popular cause with Pakistanis. A few years ago the Pakistani Senate had even named the Islamic terrorist, the “Daughter of the Nation”.

Indian Mujahideen co-founder Riyaz Bhatkal had plotted to take Jews hostage a decade ago in order to force ‘Lady Al Qaeda’s release. British Muslim “charities” were a major source of funding to the Jihadist group as they are for many Pakistani Jihadist enterprises.

While much has been made of the advocacy on behalf of Siddiqui by CAIR and other Islamist colonists in America, top Muslim politicians in the UK also vocally demanded her release, including Lord Nazir Ahmed and Lord Altaf Sheikh.

When Husain visited Blackburn, he warned that, “it is clear that a caliphist subculture thrives here, a separate world from the rest of British society.”

Tableeghi Jamaat, whose mosques are known as “breeding grounds” for Jihad, is closely intertwined with Pakistani Islamism and vectored Islamic terrorism. Quite a number have joined Al Qaeda. It is no coincidence that so many Islamic terrorists have come out of Blackburn.

Nor is it a coincidence that the latest Islamic terrorist attack on America originated there.

Faisal Akram traveled to Texas, where ‘Lady Al Qaeda’ sleeps at the Federal Medical Center, Carswell in Fort Worth. He was one of many Muslim pilgrims seeking to extricate her. Just last fall, the Dallas-Forth Worth CAIR and the Pakistani terror regime claimed that Aafia Siddiqui had been assaulted in U.S. custody in the latest effort of many on behalf of ‘Lady Al Qaeda’.

Faisal’s target, a progressive Reform Temple which happened to carry the traditional name of Congregation Beth Israel despite its social justice activist clergyman’s hostility to Israel, was ideally selected to fit Muslim antisemitic obsessions with both Israel and Jews.

The antisemitic rants, the hostage crisis, and the rapid cover-up are all regular features of life for Jews in Europe. Changing demographics are making them a new reality for American Jews.

Any American city or town can become the new Blackburn. That’s the harsh lesson here.

Pakistani antisemitism and obscure Jihadist movements are not local issues, they are global threats. The poison nurtured in a declining British post-industrial town blew up in Texas. We are all interconnected, and that interconnectedness has made the Jihad into a global enterprise. Ideas, tactics, and organizations that once took centuries to colonize the world can travel around it at the speed of the internet and a terror plot can happen at the speed of a jet plane.

We can either police our borders, control our immigration, and build walls around our nations, or we must be resigned to being hunted, stalked, and killed anywhere and at any given moment.

In Blackburn, Muslims anticipate the Texas Jihadist ascending to the “highest ranks of Paradise” where he will enjoy the company of 72 virgins. More Muslims from Blackburn, marinating in the same hatred for America, for Jews, and for anyone unlike them, will follow in his footsteps.

Djokovic’s Deportation is Australia’s Loss

The Australian government’s dealings with the world’s top tennis player make no sense, but his principled positions will only enhance his tremendous legacy, especially in light of his philanthropic endeavors.

By: Nathan Netanyahu

As a tennis enthusiast and an ardent supporter of Novak Djokovic, I watched, along with hundreds of millions of others worldwide, as the Australian visa saga unfolded. Naturally, I was deeply disappointed by the decision to deport him and prevent him from trying to win the coveted 21st Grand Slam.

The arbitrary, dogmatic and ridiculous conduct of the Australian government in this matter raises quite a few questions.

First, why was Djokovic’s visa revoked only after he arrived in the country when he had presented the required medical exemption based on the opinion of two independent expert panels, having recently recovered from COVID-19? Moreover, if he indeed did not have the necessary documents, how did Australian border authorities at the airport even allow him to board the flight?

Other tennis players in similar circumstances were not denied a visa. Was there selective enforcement at play?

It stands to reason that the local government decided to take action against Djokovic upon learning of his arrival, in the face of the Australian public’s growing resentment over its problematic COVID policy. This cynical, populist act was most likely also aimed at marking political gains ahead of the upcoming general election.

Australian Immigration Minister Alex Hawke’s argument that Djokovic was “a threat to public health” does not coincide with the data, which suggests that the chances of an individual who has recovered from COVID-19 getting infected again and infecting others are significantly lowered. Presumably, this was the rationale upon which Djokovic was granted a medical exemption to play in the Australian Open in the first place.

It is also hard to understand the specific concern that he posed a threat, especially when considering that the vaccines are inherently less effective against the Omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus (Australia recently recorded 100,000 cases in 24 hours), and even more so when considering that Djokovic was supposed to spend most of his time in quarantine-like conditions.

What is even more interesting is that former Australian Deputy Immigration Minister Abul Rizvi said that during his 10-year tenure, there was only a single case(!) of a visa revoked upon entry over health issues. The individual involved was infected with tuberculosis.

The claim that allowing Djokovic entry would have encouraged the anti-vaccination movement is also baseless, as Djokovic has never publicly called on anyone not to be vaccinated.

It is convenient to make Novak a scapegoat for his part in the affair, due to his controversial conduct with respect to the coronavirus and various incidents in which he was involved on and off the tennis court (because even the greatest tennis player in the world is only human). However, he deserves full credit—not the disrespect shown by most of his peers on the tour—for his principled adherence to natural healing, proper nutrition, mental health, etc., which he has applied only to himself.

Djokovic’s principled positions will only enhance his tremendous legacy, especially in light of his philanthropic endeavors with respect to his consistent support of young tennis players, improving conditions in the industry, and his generous contributions to charity.

Beyond the irrational conduct of the Australian government, it was disappointing to see the hostile attitude the majority of the local population showed regarding Djokovic. Instead of embracing him and awarding him the Order of Australia for his unique contribution over the years to enhancing the country’s image worldwide, he was treated as an enemy of the people.

I am confident that Djokovic will still have his chance to cement his status as the greatest tennis player of all time, in order to fulfill the goal for which he was sucked “Down Under” this month.

A Jewish Majority is Insufficient to Protect Israel

The current government has adopted a post-Zionist ethos and governing agenda. We must reinstate the Jewish consensus around Zionism in our schools, media, and politics.

By: Caroline Glick

After their claim to be the peace camp exploded into a million pieces in a hundred suicide bombings, Israel’s left reinvented itself as the Zionist camp. Their plan of quitting Judea and Samaria and partitioning Jerusalem remained unchanged. But it was rebranded not as a plan for peace, but as a means to protect Israel’s Jewish identity in the face of the mortal threat of the Palestinian womb.

Within a year or two, or a decade or two, the left warned, if Israel maintained its control over its strategic depth, unified capital and historic heartland, the Jews would lose their numeric majority over the Arabs. And at that point, Israel would be faced with the choice of becoming a non-Jewish state or a non-democratic one. By this reasoning, anyone who calls to apply Israeli law over all or parts of Judea and Samaria, and maintain Jerusalem as an undivided city, is an anti-Zionist, a fascist, or both.

Luckily, the demographic time bomb turned out to be as much of a dud as the peace process was a bomb. As the population data published at the end of 2021 by the Central Bureau of Statistics demonstrate, Israel’s Jewish majority is massive and growing.

There are 6.98 million Jews living in Israel. They comprise 73.9 percent of Israel’s citizens. With non-Jews who are sociologically aligned with the Jewish majority (Russian immigrants who are not Jews under Jewish law, and other minority groups), 80% of Israel’s citizens are Jews.

Jewish Israeli women have more children on average than Muslim Israeli women and Muslim Palestinian women in Judea and Samaria. Aliyah rates to Israel remain high and far outstrip emigration rates. These data indicate that not only is Israel’s Jewish majority stable, it is growing.

As demographer and former ambassador Yoram Ettinger has proven through repeated analyses of Palestinian birth, death and emigration data over the past decade, if Palestinian Arabs in Judea and Samaria were incorporated into Israel’s population count, the Jewish majority would be reduced, to be sure, but it would not be endangered. Under that scenario, Jews would comprise 63% of Israel’s citizenry. So far from being a threat to Israel’s Jewish identity, demography is a safeguard of Israel’s Jewish character.

Unfortunately, demography isn’t the only variable determining whether Israel will or will not remain the Jewish state. It turns out that Arabs don’t need to outnumber the Jews to destroy the Zionist dream. All they need is to find a minority of Israeli Jews to partner with them. With a sufficient number of Jews on their side, Israel’s Arab minority, which comprises just 20% of the population, can effectively end the existence of the Jewish people’s nation state.

And this brings us to the left’s latest shift. The failure of Oslo, and the failure of the Gaza withdrawal (which was justified with demographic demagoguery), left Israel’s left on life support. In 2014, only 12% of Israelis identified themselves as leftists. By 2018, only 8% of Israelis did.

Despairing of ever winning an electoral majority, beginning in the early 2000s, Israel’s ideological leftists began abandoning Zionism and joining the Israeli Arabs, the international left and the European Union as central players in their political war against Israel and its right to exist. Leftist professors joined the campaigns to boycott their universities. Leftist lawyers led lawfare and propaganda wars funded by European governments and anti-Israel foundations in America. Working hand in glove with post-Zionist Supreme Court justices and government lawyers, these lawfare activists constrained Israel’s ability to enforce its laws among Arab citizens and to wage successful counter-terror campaigns against the Hamas terror regime in Gaza.

Israeli leftists led foreign-funded fights to block Israel from enforcing its immigration laws against illegal aliens from Africa.

They waged legal and political fights against Jewish public observance. Their fight against the ban on the sale of hametz [leavened foodstuffs] during Passover; for non-Orthodox prayer at the Western Wall; and their campaigns to prohibit separate public events for men and women in religious communities are just a few examples of the post-Zionist left’s across-the-board war against the Jewish character of the State of Israel.

The left’s political parties, seemingly doomed to the back benches of the Opposition, also adjusted to the new realities by abandoning Zionism. The far-left Meretz Party’s leaders realized that their Jewish voter rolls were unlikely to expand and that if they wished to remain in the Knesset, they had to direct their voter recruitment drives toward Arab Israelis. In fits and bounds, the Labor Party followed suit.

To be sure, the leftist parties weren’t the only Jewish parties courting the Arab vote. Likud leader Benjamin Netanyahu and Shas leader Aryeh Deri also had long been assiduous in their outreach to Arab Israelis. But there was a distinct difference between Likud and Shas Arab outreach campaigns and Labor and Meretz’s efforts. Likud and Shas have sought to bring Arabs into the Jewish polity by advocating on behalf of their economic and municipal interests. In so doing, Likud and Shas sought the support of Arabs who seek to integrate into the Jewish Israeli mainstream.

In contrast, Meretz and Labor courted Arab voters by adopting the anti-Zionist positions advocated by the anti-Zionist Arab parties. So it came to pass that Meretz erased Zionism from its party platform. It adopted the slogan, “To be proud in our land.” The slogan, taken from Israel’s national anthem, “Hatikvah,” includes an obvious omission. The line in “Hatikvah” is “to be a proud nation in our land.”

As for Labor, the Zionist banner of David Ben-Gurion, Golda Meir and Yitzhak Rabin was replaced with the banner of radical feminism. Labor head Merav Michaeli’s platform doesn’t erase Zionism, it simply defines Zionism as withdrawing from Judea and Samaria and partitioning Jerusalem (to maintain the Jewish majority, of course). But Michaeli’s real emphasis has been radical feminism.

Michaeli’s decision to bring Arab nationalist Ibtisam Mara’ana onto her Knesset slate was a staple of her new Labor Party. Mara’ana has a long record of comparing Israel’s establishment (the “Nakba”) with the Holocaust. But on the other hand, she has embraced Michaeli’s annoying efforts to feminize the Hebrew language by using feminine forms of nouns and verbs rather than masculine ones, defying the basic rules of grammar in the service of some illiterate feminist agenda.

This brings us to the more moderate left. Its shift to post-Zionism has been more gradual and far less publicized. In 2011, the moderate left was still very committed to Zionism. That year, in response to the radicalization of the far left, including the legal fraternity, Kadima lawmaker MK Avi Dichter presented a bill for Basic Law–Israel: The Nation State of the Jewish People. At the time, Dichter’s boss, Kadima leader Tzipi Livni, supported Dichter’s efforts to use primary legislation to safeguard Israel’s Jewish character. Dichter submitted the bill again as a Likud MK in 2017. By that time, as co-head of the Labor Party, Livni was one of the bill’s most ardent opponents.

The erosion of the moderate left’s Zionist commitment kicked into high gear during the 2019-2021 election vortex, where Israel held four inconclusive elections in rapid succession. At the outset of the process, the new center-left party Blue and White, led by three former IDF chiefs of staff—Benny Gantz, Gabi Ashkenazi and Moshe Ya’alon—and Yesh Atid leader Yair Lapid, was firmly in the Zionist camp. The four leaders all opposed forming a government that relied on the support of the virulently anti-Zionist and largely pro-terror Joint Arab List.

That consensus view began to crumble after the second election. Lapid and his Yesh Atid party were the first to support forming a government with Arab lawmakers who seek Israel’s dissolution as a Jewish state. After the third election, Gantz, Ya’alon and Ashkenazi agreed. But the left alone was not large enough to form a 61-seat majority, even with the Arabs.

The prospect of a minority Arab faction gaining control over the Knesset and government became a salient possibility after the fourth election last March. It was then that the careerist, anti-Netanyahu right-wing parties—Gideon Sa’ar’s New Hope and Naftali Bennett and Ayelet Shaked’s Yamina—decided that in exchange for senior positions, they would form a coalition government dependent on Ra’am, which hails from the Muslim Brotherhood-aligned Islamic Movement.

Initially it wasn’t clear who was swallowing whom. Ra’am chairman Mansour Abbas has become an expert making empty pronouncements (his latest involved stating the undisputed fact that “Israel is a Jewish state”) that are music to Israelis’ ears while advancing his Islamist, decidedly anti-Jewish agenda. There was hope early on that Abbas’s willingness to join a governing coalition stemmed from an abandonment of anti-Zionism in favor of an integrationist impulse. Perhaps that would have been the case if he had joined a Netanyahu-led, all-right-wing coalition. But in the event, from the early days of the current opportunist right-wing-led, leftist-dominated government it became apparent that it was Abbas that had swallowed the leftist and opportunistic right-wing parties. They aligned toward him, not the other way around.

The government’s failure to pass the amended citizenship law that blocks mass Arab immigration; its passage of the so-called “Electricity Law,” which effectively legalized thousands of illegal Bedouin houses and towns built on stolen state lands in the Negev; the government’s cancellation on Wednesday of tree planting in the Negev in the face of Ra’am-supported Arab nationalist riots; the government’s repeated rejection of bills requiring the provision of electricity to new Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria—these are just some of the governmental actions that attest to the current government has abandoned Zionism as its governing rationale and replaced it with a post-Zionist ethos and governing agenda.

The lesson from all of this is obvious. Having a Jewish majority is not a guarantee that Israel will remain a Jewish state. We must reinstate the Jewish consensus around Zionism in our schools, media and politics. Post-Zionist politicians must be exposed. And opportunists who prioritize their ambitions over securing the Jewish state must be ousted and replaced with men and women who are dedicated to the Zionist vision of the Jewish people from time immemorial.

The Campaign to Free Aafia Siddiqui & Cong. Beth Israel

Most Americans may not have heard of Aafia Siddiqui before Saturday, when a gunman entered Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville, Texas, outside Dallas, and took the rabbi and three congregants hostage.

Most of us are not aware of what Siddiqui did in Afhanistan–despite which CAIR and other Muslim groups demand she be set free.

Most Americans may not have heard of Aafia Siddiqui before Saturday, when a gunman entered Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville, Texas, outside Dallas, and took the rabbi and three congregants hostage. Thankfully, the standoff ended without any hostage being harmed.

But for many American Islamist groups, Siddiqui is a martyr, “another victim of the U.S. war of terror.”

In rallies and seminars throughout the past year, groups including the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) and the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) Council for Social Justice demanded that Siddiqui be freed.

She was sentenced to 86 years in prison after her 2010 conviction for attempting to kill U.S. personnel in Afghanistan who were preparing to interrogate her. She was able to grab an M4 rifle and, according to her indictment, open fire. Her shots missed and she was wounded by return fire.

When she was arrested, she was carrying “documents that discussed the construction of weapons, referenced a ‘mass casualty attack,’ and listed a number of New York City landmarks,” the Second U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals noted in rejecting her appeal. Some of those documents were in her handwriting and had her fingerprints on them.

“The strength of the government’s case was overwhelming,” the court found.

After she was shot, she struggled with the Americans. A witness heard her say, “I am going to kill all you Americans. You are going to die by my blood.” While recovering from her wound at Bagram Air Base, Siddiqui asked people guarding her about the penalty for attempted murder and “said that she had picked up a rifle with the intention of scaring the American team and escaping; and noted that “spewing” bullets at Americans was a bad thing.”

In addition, Siddiqui had a family connection to 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheik Mohammed. She moved from the United States to Pakistan after the al-Qaida attacks, telling a psychologist who interviewed her that “Americans were intending to abduct Muslim children and were converting them to Christianity.”

In Pakistan, she married Mohammed’s nephew.

The court record and Siddiqui’s family connections have gone unmentioned during the recent events advocating for her cause. So, too, has the way terrorist groups see her as a “superstar.”

“On several occasions, both the Taliban and Islamic State have asked for either the release or extradition of Dr. Siddiqui in exchange for U.S. captives,” Joe Kasper, deputy chief of staff to then-U.S. Rep. Duncan Hunter told the Los Angeles Times in 2014. Kasper, the story said, had access “to communications with the militant networks.”

ISIS, for example, made separate offers to free American hostages James Foley and Kayla Mueller in exchange for Siddiqui. The Taliban also reportedly offered prisoner swaps to free Siddiqui. Both hostages were murdered.

A third terrorist group, Jabhat al Nusra, trained an Ohio resident named Abdirahman Sheik Mohamud to plot a terrorist attack on the Texas penitentiary where Siddiqui is serving her sentence,

George Washington University’s Program on Extremism noted in a 2018 report. According to a prosecution sentencing memo, “Siddiqui’s conviction and imprisonment at a federal facility in Texas was a rallying point for Al-Qa’ida and other terrorist groups,” and Mohamud researched information about the prison. He planned “to execute ‘something big’ like travelling to Texas, where Dr. Siddiqui was being held, capturing three or four soldiers and killing them execution style.”

At an October rally held in New York sponsored by more than a dozen groups, including the Aafia Foundation, CAIR, AMP, and the Muslim American Society, speakers claimed that her arrest and conviction were actually part of a war waged on Islam.

“Aafia is our Statue of Liberty. Aafia’s hijab is our crown,” said Yousef Baig, whose Facebook page indicates he used to work for CAIR’s Houston office. “She is our sister. So why are we here today? We’re here for Aafia. She carries our faith in heart, just like brother [Mauri] Saalakhan said, she is a hafiza [memorized the Quran]. She carries our faith within her, and our faith has been assaulted when Aafia was assaulted. Our religion, our book, our faith was desecrated when she was tortured. And our prophet is disappointed because we have not done enough for her.”

The United States government denies Siddiqui was ever mistreated.

Muslim Americans need to stand up for Siddiqui, said former CAIR-Florida Executive Director Hassan Shibly, who also painted a picture of recently deceased American political and military leaders “answering for their deeds” in the afterlife.

“Our sister Aafia Siddiqui’s imprisonment is a test for us more than it is a test for her. Allah is testing us,” Shibly said at the New York rally. “What are we doing to stand for our sister, for her family, for all those victims of the United States war of terror against the Muslim world. She is another victim of the U.S. war of terror. And the perpetrators will be held accountable, if not in this life, in the next. Rumsfeld, Bush senior, Powell, they are all answering for their deeds at this very moment. And they must answer for each and every Iraqi, Afghani, Pakistani, every person of color, every person throughout the world whose blood has been shed.”

Siddiqui “embodies a political prisoner,” antisemitic activist Linda Sarsoursaid during a November webinar sponsored by CAIR-Texas. “And I see her in the same realm that I see Imam Jamil and Leonard Peltier, and many other former black Panther party leaders and others who have been subjected to torture and subjected to solitary confinement and subjected to things that no human being should be subjected to in our incarceration system. I believe like you said, you know, no one was killed. To have an 86-year sentence when no one’s life was taken is absolutely outrageous. And I’m sure that the general American public will say whatever you believe that Dr. Aafia did, the fact [is] that there are no dead bodies.”

CAIR was quick to condemn the incident and claim that it stands with the Jewish community. But that solidarity is opportunistic.

CAIR lauds Siddiqui, but overlooks her antisemitic statements, including demanding that no Jews be allowed to serve on her jury.

CAIR double downed in defending its San Francisco chapter leader, Zahra Billoo, after she gave a speech in November urging an audience to “pay attention” to just about all facets of the American Jewish community. The “polite Zionists” are still their enemies, she said.

“They are not your friends,” she said. “They will not be there for you when you need them. They will take your friendship and throw your Palestinian brothers and sisters under the bus.”

No one in Congregation Beth Israel had anything to do with Siddiqui’s case. It appears that the gunman chose to target Jews at a synagogue near her prison.

Holocaust Documentary Features Four Stories of European Child Survivors Now Living in Florida

A Nazi almost murdered Anita Karl for the sin of trying to have a piece of chocolate.

The German asked Karl and her cousin if they wanted a piece of candy. Her cousin was quicker; he sat her on his lap, handed her a piece of chocolate with one hand, took his gun out in his other hand and did something inexplicable.

This is one of several highly traumatic stories in the powerful new documentary “Against All Odds: Surviving the Holocaust.” Karl would be one of only 200 out of 150,000 Jews in the Lvov ghetto to survive.

Directed and produced by Paul Bachow, the film—to be shown as part of the Miami Jewish Film Festival on Jan. 14—showcases the story of Karl and three other survivors. This no-frills documentary is simple and doesn’t boast a big budget. It doesn’t need to. It is an extremely potent film that makes you feel like the survivors are your family members telling their miraculous stories in your own living room.

Karl was staying in a home with a gentile woman when she saw a teenage boy shot and killed, his blood splattering the window. She asked the woman what took place.

“Oh, don’t worry; he’s just a Jew,” Karl recounts the woman as telling her, not knowing her true religion.

Because Karl’s mother had gone to a public school and had stayed for Catholic-school classes, she was able to convince authorities that she was Catholic and used an ingenious plan on a train to overcome the problem of not having documents to prove she was not a Jew.

Karl and her mother would see Jews that had been hanged to death with signs that read: “This is what happens to the Jews who try to escape.”

A cooked piece of potato peel

Gerald Beigel was one of three family members who survived, while 32 were murdered by the Nazis; and his mother and sister were on the last train to Auschwitz. Living in Berlin, his parents thought of Adolf Hitler as “crazy” and didn’t think he would last long in power. Of course, they were wrong.

Still, they attempted to get a visa for America but were told they would not receive it until 1947 or 1948. And so, he took off his Jewish star and went out, risking his life to go to the movies on many occasions.

When he eventually ended up at a death camp, despite being told to go to the left—meaning the gas chambers, he ran after his brother, who was told to go to the right. He survived two death marches, and after his leg was wounded and a doctor said they would have to amputate it, he said he’d rather die than have them do so. Beigel also recalls on his 17th birthday, he and his father celebrated with the only food they had: a cooked piece of potato peel.

He also tells of being carted away with two corpses about to be thrown in a fire, injured and barely able to move. But he did, and somehow, his life was spared, and he survived Auschwitz and Dachau.

‘We will take revenge for you’

Ryszarda Rozenblum was one of maybe 11 who survived out of initially more than 75,000 children in the Lodz ghetto, the last remaining ghetto in German-occupied Poland.

The head of the ghetto suggested making a camp for youth that comprised about 1,000 children.

There, at first, they got a little bread and soup. Then children were taken to a school, and she’d sing “Hatikvah” to others and work four hours a day. Her brother was 13; she was 11. Fortunately, a rabbi gave her father good advice that resulted in saving her life. Born in 1929, her brother and parents, two sisters and about a total of 100 family members would be killed at Chelmno, Auschwitz and other death camps.

She recalls crying out, “Oh God, where are you now?” She was eventually saved, as depicted in the film, in a unique way.

When the Red Army came in, the Germans fled. In tears, as she saw she was alone, a young Russian soldier told her: “We will take revenge for you, don’t cry.”

A beating by saved his life

Walter Lebensohn from Vienna tells of how many Jews committed suicide. Born in 1931, anti-Semites would later throw him into the Danube Canal, but he was able to get out of the freezing water. He tells of how Jews didn’t believe they would be exterminated because they made up about half of the total doctors and lawyers. His father wanted to give him a Hebrew name but was told that due to rampant anti-Semitism, it wouldn’t be a good move, and so the person suggested the name “Walter” to his father.

Ironically, a beating by the head of an orphanage he was staying in saved his life. Afterwards, his mother was able to send him to an unlikely destination for safety as he took on the fake name of Michael Pepperman. He was on the last transport out of Hungary in 1942 before Adolph Eichmann told the Hungarian leader to now allow any more Jews to leave.

I have seen many Holocaust documentaries. Some have graphic scenes; this one does not. Some have extensive research; this one does not. Some have a slew of talking heads and expert historians; this one does not. And yet, this documentary somehow made me angrier and more moved me in a more profound way. Perhaps because many of those include positive aspects of the survivors made when they came to America.

In this film, each story ends when the war ends. There is something known as “Holocaust fatigue,” when people have seen so many films or read so many books that they feel the market is saturated and they can’t handle any more information. But make room for one more film—this film. “Against All Odds: Surviving the Holocaust” is extremely riveting, dynamic in its simplicity and harrowing in its storytelling, but with a resounding message.

It is impossible to watch films like this and not wonder what you would have done had you been in a similar situation—being Jewish in the time of the Holocaust. What would it be like to live underground in secret, knowing one false move, breath or word could mean certain death? Survival guilt here is implied and not expressly stated. The film is well-edited, hard-hitting and could (and should) be used in schools. The saga of these Europeans turned Floridians is truly something to see.

New season set to take Doron Kavillio and his kick-ass team on a global adventure that certainly promises to brighten our year.

By: Naama Barak

If you have been feeling that something’s missing in your life recently (aside from international travel, obviously), there’s a good chance your “Fauda” crave has been stealthily creeping up on you, commando-style.

Luckily, the first trailer for Season 4 has just been released, giving us a sneak peek at the adventures that await our favorite TV characters.

According to the teaser, Doron Kavillio and his kick-ass team are set to land in locations such as Lebanon and Belgium, where they will try and free someone kidnapped by Hezbollah.

The show’s regular crew is set to be joined by new characters played by a stellar cast of Israeli actors including Lucy Ayoub, Amir Boutrous, Mark Ivanir, Inbar Lavi and Loai Noufi.

“Fauda,” meaning “chaos” in Arabic, was created by Avi Issacharoff and Lior Raz, who also plays the lead role. It first appeared on our screens back in 2015 and premiered a year later on Netflix, where it became an international hit – also among audiences in Arab countries where its viewing is reportedly somewhat of a guilty pleasure.

As well as its fast pace and great action shots, the show is also appreciated for its more-nuanced-than-usual popular portrayal of the Arab-Palestinian conflict and its effects on people on both sides of the border.

The new season is set to be released in mid-2022 on Yes and via Netflix, and to be honest, we can’t wait.
