You’re only as good as your last film, as the saying goes in the movie industry. If you’re the brother of a once-powerful man who abused that power to make or break careers, then it may be time to sell your high-end New York real estate.
Film producer Bob Weinstein, the 63-year-old younger brother of embattled film executive Harvey Weinstein, 66, sold his duplex co-op at the Beresford for $20.5 million, the Real Deal reports. He originally purchased it for $20 million in 2004.
The New York Post reports that the approximately 7,000-square-foot home was for sale starting shortly after last Labor Day, according to StreetEasy. The listing came exactly one month before the New York Times published its bombshell exposé detailing decades of allegations of rampant sexual harassment and assault, according to the New York Post.
The property is located at 211 Central Park West on Manhattan’s Upper West Side and dropped its asking price by 3 million to $26.5 million.
The listing images for Weinstein’s home show bare interiors, according to The New York Post. Deborah Grubman, David Adler and Paul Albano of the Corcoran Group represent the listing, which details the home’s moldings, original herringbone floors, a curved staircase that leads to the pad’s five bedrooms, woodburning fireplaces and two terraces, with even more features like views of Central Park and the city skyline, according to The New York Post.
This sale comes as part of what appears to be a big effort to offload property. In June, Weinstein sold his mansion in affluent Greenwich, Conn., for $17 million, just more than the $16.4 million he spent for it in 2000, The New York Post reports. The property, which takes up 13,000-square-foot property, was on and off the market since 2013.
Weinstein also sold a 6,608-square-foot Upper West Side townhouse at 39 W. 70th St. for $15 million in December 2017, The New York Post reports. Weinstein and ex-wife Annie Clayton bought the five-story home for that same price in 2009, records show.
Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance Jr. Recently got new indictments against the credibly accused producer for two counts of predatory sexual assault and one count of criminal sexual act in the first degree for a forcible sexual act against the unnamed woman in 2006.
Weinstein could spend the rest of his life in prison because he faces top predatory sex act charges, according to the district attorney. He already faced the possibility of 25 years on felony charges of rape and a criminal sex act, to which he’s pleaded not guilty, according to The New York Post.
The charges come from allegations that Weinstein forced a woman named Lucia Evans to perform oral sex on him in 2004. He was also accused of raping a second woman at a DoubleTree hotel in Manhattan in 2013.
