(A7) Rabbi Gershon Edelstein, 100, was hospitalized Thursday night due to shortness of breath.

Rabbi Edelstein is a leading Lithuanian-haredi rabbi and the dean of the Ponevezh Yeshiva in Bnei Brak.

Over the course of the night, Rabbi Edelstein’s condition stabilized, but he is still hospitalized at Mayanei Hayeshua Medical Center in Bnei Brak, where his condition is being closely monitored.

The Ponevezh Yeshiva students stopped their usual Shavuot night Torah studies in order to recite Psalms for their dean’s recovery.

Shavuot, the Festival of Weeks, began Thursday at sundown and lasted until Friday at sundown.

The public is asked to pray for the recovery of Rabbi Yerachmiel Gershon, the son of Miriam, among the other ill of Israel.
