On March 22, 2023, Mendy Mirocznik, president of the Staten Island Council of Jewish Organizations (COJO) and Ari Weiss, security chairman of COJO met with Inspector Stephen Spataro the newly appointed Commanding Officer of Pct. 120 and the officers under his command for a review of safety protocols and security issues at Pct. 120 Located in the St. George section of Staten Island.

“As president of COJO, I cannot emphasize enough our appreciation to Inspector Spataro who on his appointment on April 24, as the new Commanding Officer of Pct. 120 called to introduce himself. As I previously noted, in our introductory conversation we did not chat about the general pleasantries that are normally associated with an introductory conversation, but we rather had a conversation on the preparations and public safety plan that he and his officers are undertaking in response to the day of hate advocated by white supremacy groups targeting the Jewish community.

As a follow up, Inspector Spataro invited us to meet with him and his officers to review the state of public safety in Staten Island and how COJO as a community partner with the NYPD will work together to enhance public safety. I am happy to report that we have established a great rapport with Inspector Spataro and we have w wonderful working relationship with the officers under his command. I am most pleased that we have great channels of communication with the NYPD and Pct. 120 is prepared and will take all steps in keeping Staten Island safe” so reported Mendy Mirocznik, COJO president.

Inspector Spataro commented, “in my short few weeks at Pct. 120, I have interacted several times so far with COJO, Mendy Mirocznik and Ari Weiss and I have learnt that COJO transcends all the diverse communities who call Staten Island home. I am further impressed with the level of cooperation and community coordination that COJO is actively engaged in. It is this communication that is the foundation of the great police community trust and confidence that only works to enhance Staten Island’s public safety. I am proud to be part of this and I look forward to partnering with COJO on community projects that will be a benefit to all Staten Islanders.
