On Monday, a single mother filed a lawsuit alleging that Leon Black raped her two decades ago, in Jeffrey Epstein’s Manhattan townhouse.  Black, 71, co-founder and former-CEO of private equity firm Apollo Global Management and former chairman of The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City has already stepped down from both prominent positions in 2021, after it was revealed that he had paid $158 million to the convicted sex offender and businessman for tax-related financial advice from 2012 to 2017.

As reported by the NY Post, Cheri Pierson has filed a suit in Manhattan Supreme Court alleging that Epstein had set up a meeting between her and Black in his Upper East Side mansion, and that Black allegedly raped her there.  “She recalls desperately yelling and screaming” and she “tried to kick” but “he was too strong,” the suit states, describing the alleged 2002 incident.  Pierson says she was introduced to Epstein in 2000 by Ghislaine Maxwell and an unnamed Ukrainian woman.  She has brought forward the public allegations now for the first time, thanks to a time extension granted under NY’s Adult Survivors Act.

She alleges that she was a struggling single mom at the time trying to start a skincare line. She said she got entangled with Epstein and he paid her about $300 each for some five massages she gave him in his East 71st Street townhouse. She claims he would ask her to go further, but she would always refuse, as per the suit.  She stopped seeing him then, but she called him in 2002, when she was “in desperate need for money,” as per her filing.  He had then sent her $300 and shortly after had asked her to come by to be introduced to someone who could help her – setting up the meeting with Black, as per the legal filing.  Pierson alleges that she was paid $300 up front for a message but was violently and painfully raped, the suit claims.  Black allegedly contacted her several times afterwards, and she met up with him on two occasions – the first time she left soon after out of fear and on the second, he gave her $5,000 cash later calling her expecting to meet, the suit alleges.

Pierson, who now lives in Virginia, is suing Black for sexual assault and other claims. Her suit also names Epstein’s estate, which she accuses of negligence. She is seeking unspecified damages.

Black’s lawyer Susan Estrich said in a statement that Pierson’s claims are “categorically false” and that the suit is an effort to “extort money from Mr. Black by threatening to destroy his reputation.”  Black has an estimated net worth of9.1 billion in 2022, as per Forbes.  Pierson is being represented by Wigdor LLP– the same law firm that represented model Guzel Ganieva in her suit against Black.  Black has also completely denied Ganieva’s sexual violence allegations.  “We intend to defeat these baseless claims, and to pursue all of our remedies to hold the Wigdor firm legally accountable for their abusive conduct and misuse of the courts,” Estrich said.
