Lenox Hill Named Among America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Heart & Prostate Care

Lenox Hill Hospital has been named among America’s 100 best hospitals for cardiac care, coronary intervention, and prostate surgery, according to Healthgrades, the leading marketplace that connects consumers, physicians, and health systems. The designation, based on outstanding clinical outcomes, places the facility in the top 5% of hospitals nationwide for cardiac care and coronary intervention and in the top 10% for prostate surgery.

Lenox Hill Hospital was also recognized with the following achievements:

  • America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Care Award™ for 10 years in a row (2014-2023). Lenox Hill is the only hospital in New York State to receive this award for 10 consecutive years.
  • America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Coronary Intervention Award™ for 12 years in a row (2012-2023).
  • America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Prostate Surgeries Award™ for 8 years in a row (2016-2023).
  • 2023 Gastrointestinal Care Excellence Award™
  • 2023 Gastrointestinal Surgery Excellence Award™
  • 2023 Critical Care Excellence Award™
  • Five-Star Distinctions for coronary bypass surgery, coronary intervention procedures, back surgery, treatment of heart failure, transurethral prostate resection surgery, colorectal surgery, appendectomy, and treatment of sepsis.

Healthgrades evaluated nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide and assessed them based on patient mortality and complication rates for 31 of the most common conditions and procedures. Medical centers named among America’s 100 Best for specialty care demonstrated superior patient outcomes when compared to hospitals that did not receive these distinctions. From 2019-2021, patients treated at hospitals receiving the America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Coronary Intervention Award have, on average, a 47.3% lower risk of dying than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the award.* Additionally, patients treated at hospitals receiving the America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Prostate Surgery Award have, on average, 56.4% lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the award.*

In addition to Healthgrades’ ratings, Lenox Hill Hospital has been rated 15th in the nation for cardiology and heart surgery by U.S. News and World Report for 2022-23. It was also deemed high performing for a variety of cardiac conditions, including abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, aortic valve surgery, heart attack, heart bypass surgery, heart failure and transcatheter aortic valve replacement. The Report also ranked Lenox Hill as high performing for urology and prostate cancer surgery.

Lenox Hill’s cardiothoracic program received three-star ratings from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons for superior outcomes in two complex heart procedures: isolated coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and isolated mitral valve replacement and repair (MVRR). Furthermore, Newsweek ranked Lenox Hill Hospital among the “World’s Best Specialized Hospitals” for cardiology, indicating not only expertise in this clinical specialty but also leadership in scientific development.

Statistics are based on Healthgrades analysis of MedPAR data for years 2019 through 2021 and represent three-year estimates for Medicare patients only. For appendectomy and bariatric surgery, Healthgrades used inpatient data from 16 states that provide all-payer data for years 2019 through 2021.
