For Mets player Mark Canha, the ample food options were “a huge bonus” of being on a New York City team. As per the NY Post, the outfielder, who signed up with the Mets last year, loves eating out in and around Citi Field and other NYC neighborhoods. “My wife and I are big food people,” Canha told The Post.  The 33-year-old San Jose, Calif. native, now lives on the Upper West Side.  He enjoys the culinary experience in the Big Apple so much that he chronicles his eating adventures on Instagram as user @bigleaguefoodie.  Canha already has his favorite picks in Manhattan– Le Bernardin, where he and his wife Marci enjoy fancy date nights, and Nice Matin for casual dinners with their two daughters.  “They’ll eat French fries and they let them color on the tables there because they have paper tablecloths,” said Canha, who boasts a salary of $12 million for 2022.  He even takes dining tips from fans.  “A lot of people in New York actually have reached out to me and given me their list of favorite restaurants,” he said. “I have a whole list of places in Queens that I need to get to.”

Another Mets player, Adam Ottavino, also shared his foodie delights in the Big Apple.  The 36-year-old Brooklyn native, joined the Mets with a one-year contract as a pitcher in March.  He switched over from the Boston Red Sox, but had previously grown up in NYC, and also had played for the NY Yankees beginning in 2019.  The 6’5 player, who always chooses “0” as his uniform number and has been nicknamed Brooklyn, already has his favorite pizza and bagel joints set.  “Growing up, I used to get excited to go to Spumoni Gardens [the Bensonhurst Sicilian pizza mecca] and La Bagel Delight which is on 7th Avenue in Park Slope,” Ottavino said.    “We like to go to places in the city, so Italian-wise, like a Carbone or Rubirosa or Cipriani … maybe Elio’s,” added Ottavino, who now lives in Westchester with wife Brette and their two children.

Trevor May, also shared his foodie side.  The 32-year-old pitcher, who transferred from the Minnesota Twins to the Mets in 2020, told the Post he thinks Amore Pizzeria in Flushing hits it out of the ball park.  “I’ve had Amore quite a bit and it is phenomenal. It’s probably my favorite place in the general vicinity,” he said, noting he’s “an old-fashioned pepperoni guy.”  Hecurrenly lives in Long Island City with his wife Kate, and the couple also likes spots like Vernon Boulevard for pub food at Woodbines or sushi at Dai Hachi.  “Sushi’s my go-to, that’s what I’ll do if I really want to have a nice dinner,” he added.  May also shared that he will go into Benateri’s Italian deli in College Point oft for a sandwich. “Early this season I popped in and nobody recognized me and I didn’t say anything,” he said.

Pete Alonso, the 27-year-old first baseman who was born in Tampa, FL and now lives in Manhattan, said his favorite regular bagel place is Sadelle’s bakery in Soho and for pizza his go-to is Prince Street Pizza.  He and wife Haley also go to IlTriangolo and Park Side, both in Corona, for Italian food.  At the ballpark, “Polar Bear” Pete, has an easy time picking what to eat.   He told the Post that his namesake burger is his “favorite thing in the stadium.”
