The race for the 10th Congressional District has quickly become one of the most high-profile in the state. The newly reshaped district has multiple candidates participating in the August Democratic primary, and it is being watched very carefully.

The highest profile candidate was former Mayor de Blasio, who polled so low, despite him actually living in the district and his name recognition; he recently dropped out.

The former Mayor looks like he has come to grips with the disheartening fact, that he is immensely detested.

Candidates receiving significant media attention are U.S. Rep. Mondaire Jones, who was elected in 2020 to represent the 17th District and is running in the 10th after redistricting; prosecutor Daniel Goldman; former U.S. Rep. Elizabeth Holtzman; state Assemblymember Yuh-Line Niou; New York City Council Member Carlina Rivera; and state Assemblymember Jo Anne Simon.

The race is stacked with far left progressives, for example,  Niou is so radical she supports anti-Israel movement BDS.

De Blasio made a recorded announcement dropping out shortly after a poll showed him polling towards the bottom of the heap.  A July poll was run by progressive firm Data for Progress – whose founder Sean McElwee has actually been a public defender of the former mayor’s progressive legacy.

City and State reported:

Progressive firm Data for Progress has New York City Council Member Carlina Rivera leading the Democratic primary field with 17% of likely voters’ support. Assembly Member Yuh-Line Niou was second with 14% and former House impeachment counsel Dan Goldman close behind with 12%, while former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio was in seventh place, with 5%. Some 27% of those polled said they were not sure who they would vote for in the Aug. 23 primary.

What is somewhat shocking is how in an uber progressive left-wing district like Park Slope, De Blasio apparently was not progressive enough.

A resident of Park Slope, with a very high-profile job, spoke anonymously to TJV, “look I’m one of the few Republicans in the Slope, the residents here are to the left of AOC, yet to them de Blasio is a right winger, that’s how liberal Park Slope is, yet there is one thing they have in common with conservatives, Republicans and everyone else, they can’t stomach de Blasio”, a 10th congressional district voter said.

The repudiation of the former mayor has apparently humbled the progressive, who honeymooned in communist Cuba.

The NY Post noted a recent interview with the progressive stalwart.

“It was humbling, because I had to come to grips with the fact that some of the things I did just didn’t make sense to people and left them feeling off about things,” the former House hopeful said in an interview with PIX 11 that aired recently

“I could tell folks were looking for something different, and that’s humbling.”

Asked what he might want to do next, de Blasio replied, “I want to serve.

“I’ll explore nonprofits, I’ll explore being involved in any way where I could promote some of the things that we did here in New York City.”

“This is not like any [other] election. I literally can’t think of one like this,” he told PIX 11’s Henry Rosoff.

“Any candidate who comes on your show and say they know who is voting on Aug. 23, I would argue they are blowing smoke, because none of us know,” de Blasio said
