This week-end’s news reports have gone hog wild with the reporting on the shootings in Buffalo, NY, by a white teen age man, Payton Gendron, in a black supermarket located in a largely black neighborhood. This criminal, evidently mentally disturbed, has been described as having been motivated by racist conspiracy theories and in documents written by himself, is a self-described virulent fascist, a white supremacist, and an anti-Semite. He was captured alive and will face the punishment he deserves as meted out in our courts of law. We have no sympathy for him although he is obviously a very troubled guy who should have been identified as a problem to be as a result of his previous run ins with the law. There is much we still do not know about the shooter that will come out later, when this story is no longer of interest to the public or to those who would use it as tinder to inflame retaliatory violence from blacks.

As of this writing, there are many unanswered questions for which we search for answers. An example:, New York State spokesman, Beau Duffy, said that back in June of 2021 investigators, “responded to Susquehanna High School in Conklin, N.Y. to investigate a report that a 17 year old student had made a threatening statement. The student was taken into custody under a provision of the state’s mental health law and transported to the hospital for a mental health evaluation. The information we have is he was there for a day and a half, was evaluated and then released.”

End of story. No follow up. Then again, prior to his school graduation, this same teen made comments about planning to shoot people. This Sunday, the police chief, when asked about these threats responded, that it was a generalized threat; not a specific threat made at a specific place or person. We ask, just why was this obviously troubled kid not hospitalized or at least kept under police observation and medical supervision? Back in 2018 in Parkland, Florida, we had another disturbed 19-year-old shooter, Nikolas Cruz, who shot up his high school, killing 17 and wounding over a dozen others. He also had a troubled past, voicing threats to shoot up his school. Authorities then, including school staff, local law enforcement and even the FBI did nothing, even after interviewing the future killer.

In both instances, those in charge of protecting us, dropped the ball, leaving many dead due to their failures to do their jobs. These troubled killers all give prior psychological signs of their intent. They seem to cry out for help. Why are they not listened to, helped and guided away from their stated words of violence?

And when it comes to the outcry of “White supremacy killings,” that are pouring out of the media and even the White House, why no concern for the plight of blacks in Chicago, where in the last two weeks there were 57 reported shootings and 11 deaths…..of blacks murdered by….blacks? And who knows the number of such similar killings around the country? Why is there only concern and tears for blacks killed by whites and a deathly silence for blacks killed by their own? Violent deaths at the hands of any by whites, blacks or others are now too many and this situation has to be addressed. But not by blaming a whole group of people as the aggressors or victims. Criminals come in all colors. And let’s get all of them off the streets…..before others pay the price.
