Two terrorists opened fire Sunday evening at security forces in the coastal city of Hadera, near Haifa, wounding 10 people – two critically. Two were in serious condition, one moderate and one light, according to a report on the World Israel News web site.

The Jerusalem Post reported that the Israeli defense establishment believes the attackers may have been connected to ISIS and one had reportedly been previously arrested for trying to join the terrorist group.

The attackers reportedly waited for a bus to drive by before shooting towards civilians.

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has reportedly arrived at the scene where the shooters, two Arab-Israeli men from Umm el-Fahm, were shot dead by undercover officers from Border Police’s Counterterrorism Unit, who were eating at a restaurant near the scene of the attack, according to the JPost report.

Shin Bet director Ronen Bar, Israel Police chief Kobi Shabtai and Public Security Minister Omer Bar Lev are at the scene of the attack as police helicopters are scanning the area to rule out the possibility that more attackers connected to the attack are on the streets of Hadera, according to the JPost report.

Bar Lev, Shabtai and Bar are holding a situational assessment from Hadera with IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Aviv Kohavi and Defense Minister Benny Gantz.

The two critically wounded victims died of their injuries. Reports indicated the men were in their 20s and were police officers, according to a report on the Israel National News web site.

INN reported that two terrorists carrying automatic weapons opened fire on passersby on Herbert Samuel Street in Hadera.

The ZAKA emergency response organization said that three people were treated at the scene, including one in serious condition and two in moderate condition.

Police arrived at the scene after dozens of civilians reported the shooting to the local emergency hotline and Magen David Adom.

A spokesperson for the Magen David Adom ambulance service later said that five people had been treated at the scene, according to the INN report.

“At 8:43, the MDA 101 central call center in the Sharon region received a report of five people wounded on Herbert Samuel Street in Hadera. MDA paramedics are providing medical treatment and are evacuating the wounded to Hillel Yaffe Medical Center. Three men are in moderate condition and are fully conscious.”

A police spokesperson initially confirmed that two officers were wounded, according to the INN report, adding that two gunmen were involved and that the assailants were neutralized.

World Israel News reported that United Hatzalah’s Psychotrauma and Crisis Response Unit treated multiple people for emotional shock.

“This is a very serious incident,” said MDA emergency responder Viki Kelly, as was reported by INN. “We saw 6 victims, some lying on the road and some on the sidewalk, all with bullet wounds. We performed a primary triage in the field, provided life-saving treatment and conveyed two seriously wounded and two moderately wounded to hospital. In the field there was a male and female who had no signs of life and unfortunately we had to pronounce them dead.”

“This was a very difficult scene. Unfortunately, two of the passersby who were shot were pronounced dead,” said United Hatzalah volunteer EMT Shlomo Skittel, who was one of the first responders at the scene.

“Additionally, together with other first responders at the scene, I treated two people who were in serious condition, one person in moderate condition, and three people who sustained light injuries. All of the injured were transported to Hillel Yaffe Medical Center for further care.”

INN reported that Otzma Yehudit Party chief MK Itamar Ben-Gvir said in response Sunday night: “Jewish blood is not cheap! Terror attack after terror attack – you can’t stand it already, all the suffering and destruction. We said and we warned that a government which is dependent on the Islamic Movement will, in the end, seriously harm the country’s security – and that is what is happening.”

WIN also reported that the seriously injured victims included a woman in her 20s and a man in his mid-40s, according to initial reports.

A street camera video of the shooting shows the two terrorists when they opened fire. They used altered M16 rifles and wore white, seemingly religious garb with white knit skull caps associated with certain religious Muslims, TPS reported.

It is estimated that the weapons cost more than $15,000 each, indicating that the shooters, from the northern Arab-Israeli village of Umm al-Fahm, were likely not lone gunman and that the attack must have been planned by a terrorist organization, TPS noted.
