Marvelous Monday recap 11/1

KNICKS: 5-1

In-game one, the knickerbockers rallied from a 12 point deficit to take a 12 point lead of their own late in the fourth quarter, but the Celtics would rally back, as a Jaylen Brown logo-three, and a Marcus Smart buzzer-beating sent the game to OT even at 116 apiece. In the first overtime session, a combined eight three’s rained down on MSG with Evan Fournier knocking down three of them for New York. The Celtics had a chance to win it late, but RJ Barret defended Jayson Tatum and forced him into a tough shot that clanked off the rim sending the two teams to a second extra period tied at 128.

Both fatigued, points came at a premium, with a Jaylen Brown three giving the C’s the lead, before a missed dunk, and an unsuccessful wide-open layup gave the Knicks life. Trailing 134-133 inside the final minute, Evan Fournier knocked down another three for the last of his game-high 32 points, which is the most ever in a debut in franchise history. After a defensive stop, Derrick Rose banked a layup off the glass to seal an epic 138-134 victory in front of an elated packed-house at the world’s most famous arena.

In-game two, the Knicks conjured up a “Magically evening, setting a franchise record with 24 threes in their 121-96 rout of the Magic to spoil their home opener.

But in game three, New York saw a 13 point first-half lead slip away, as Orlando stunned MSG on the back of a NY-native in Cole Anthony, who poured in 29 points, and Terrence Ross, who had 20 in the 12 minutes after being held scoreless for the duration of the contest.

The 110-104 loss was also due to the Knicks going 13/48 from their “Bread and butter” which is in a three-point lead.

That would return on Tuesday night hosting Philly, as the Knicks rained 16 3’s, and blew away a powerhouse 76ers team 112-99, also holding Joel Emblid to a subpar 13 points. On Thursday in Chicago, they staved off a 12-0 run and dealt the Bulls their first loss of the season 104-103. Looking to finish October atop the Eastern Conference, RJ Barret made it look “Easy” in the big easy, putting up a career-high 35 points leading all scorers in New York’s 123-117 win over the New Orleans Pelicans to sweep the road trip.

Nets: 4-3

After getting humiliated 127-104 by the reigning champion Bucks on opening night, the Nets seemed to be headed for an 0-2 start to the season as they trailed 108-98 approaching 5:00 minutes remaining in the contest. But a 16-1 run led by LaMarcus Aldridge(23 points), and Kevin Durant(29-15-12) propelled the Nets to a thrilling first win of the season. This victory created excitement for the home opener, but the Hornets squashed any of that and a 38 point performance out of KD, in a 111-95 thumping led by Miles Bridges 32 points. But on Monday, Brooklyn improved they were true “Wizards” at b-ball, and crushed Washington 104-90, to once more pull even at .500.

The same would transpire in the next two games, with Brooklyn rebounding from a disastrous 109-93 loss to the Heat, with a 105-98 come back home win over the Pacers in a contest that once trailed by 16 points, but received a 29 point effort out if James Harden, who came to the rescue. On Sunday, the Nets overcame a Kevin Durant ejection after handing Kenny Olynyck the football equivalent of unnecessary roughness and saw a triple-double outing from Harden, whose 18-12-10 scoreline led the Nets to a 117-91 win over the Detroit Pistons to put them over .500 on the season.

Next game: 11/3Vs Hawks(3-3)

RANGERS 6-2-1

Entering the week 0–1-1 after a 5-1 loss to Washington, and a 3-2 OT loss to Dallas, the Rangers reeled off four straight road wins. The first one came when Canadian Alexi Lafreniere scored the winner in a 3-1 win in Montreal, backed by Igor Shesterkins’ 31 saves.

On Monday, Igor stopped 41 shots in a 2-1 victory that saw Artemi Panarin find the net in overtime for the winner in Toronto over the Maple Leafs.

On Thursday, Laffy-Taffy found paydirt yet again, while Shesty stopped 28 in the 3-1 victory over the Nashville Predators.

But Saturday saw a true mental test go the Rangers away, and they prevailed in Ottawa. In “Ottowow” fashion, the Blueshirts clawed back from a 2-0 hole with 5:30 minutes remaining and turned it into a 3-2 win on goals from Chris Kreider, Ryan Lindgren, and Barclay Goodrow in that order.

But upon returning home to 13,000 fans the Rangers remained winless at home, getting outclassed in their 5-1 loss to the Flames. However, all they needed was a few days off after playing 7 games In 12 days(Though that’s not an excuse) to give Blueshirts nation their best game of the season, as Ryan Strome, Alexi Lafreniere, put home goals with Chris Kreider finding the back of the twine twice backed by three-point games by Artemi Panarin and Adam Fox, as well as a 31 save shutout from Igor Shesterkin.

On Sunday night, the team took the ice to begin their four-game west coast trip in Seattle against the Kraken in their maiden meeting. Igor once again stole the show backstopping the Blueshirts with 29 saves(3.81 goals expectancy), while Chris Kreider and Adam Fox record tallies, with a Barclay Goodrow empty-net goal sealing an improbable 3-1 victory in a contest they only registered 18 shots on goal.
