The flu is a highly infectious disease that can be spread from person-to-person through respiratory droplets, skin-to-skin contact or exposure to contaminated surfaces. The illness can range from mild to severe and in some cases may result in hospitalization and even death.
Populations at high risk of developing severe flu complications include young children, the elderly and those with compromised immune systems. The best defense against the flu is to get vaccinated every year.
As the 2021-22 flu season coincides with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it is crucial to get vaccinated. While the flu vaccine will not protect against COVID-19, it can reduce the severity of flu illness and prevent hospitalizations, thus helping save resources for the care of patients with COVID-19.
Northwell’s free flu events are open to anyone 18 years of age and above. Please note that masks are required at both locations.
