Get ready folks! We are in for a salacious replay of sorts of the Bill Clinton-Monica Lewinsky scandal that led to the former president’s impeachment.
A September 7th premiere of a new series by FX Production will present the sordid details of the Oval Office escapades of the former president and his 21-year old intern that dominated the headlines decades ago.
The series is called “Impeachment: American Crime Story” and the New York Post has reported that one of the show’s producers is none other than 48-year old Monica Lewinsky. The former White House intern has urged the other producers of the series to include a scene showing her flashing her now famous silver thong at Clinton during one of their Oval Office meetings during the mid-1990s.
Initially, the thong scene had been taken out of the original script by writer Sarah Burgess, who had serious concerns that such a dramatization could retraumatize Lewinsky, according to the Post report. It was Lewinsky herself who used her creative power in the show to insist that it be included, the report said.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about the issue, Lewinsky said, “Listen, I would’ve loved to have been really selfish and said, ‘That’s great that you guys think we don’t have to show that, fantastic” but I’m incredibly experienced in understanding how people see this story.”
Lewinsky strongly felt that the thong-flashing scene really had to be included in the series in order to “maintain the production’s integrity,” according to the NY Post.
The Starr report featured the thong incident and the expose compiled by counsel Ken Starr factored heavily into the investigation he conducted into the trysts that Clinton and Lewinsky had. It ultimately led to Clinton’s 1998 impeachment
The Post reported that Lewinsky said: “So, ultimately, I felt two things: One was that I shouldn’t get a pass because I’m a producer; and two, that it was unfair to the team and to the project because it would leave everybody vulnerable.” She also told the Post that audiences would hold her responsible as a series producer if the thong scene was left out.
“Impeachment: American Crime Story” stars Beanie Feldstein, 28, as Lewinsky; Sarah Paulson, 46, as Linda Tripp; Clive Owen, 56, as President Clinton; and Edie Falco, 58, as Hillary Clinton, according to the Post report.
