(VINnews) — The Garden State Parkway is shut down between Exit 83 and Exit 90, due to a large brush fire that broke out off Airport Road, according to the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department.

According to Lakewood Police, the fire was first reported at approximately 1:22 p.m.

According to local reports, at least 1 structure was caught in the blaze as well.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area, as well as Cedar Bridge Avenue and Airport Road.

Fire department helicopters were seen over Route 70 battling the flames.

Garden State Parkway Traffic is being diverted at Exit 91 South and Exit 89C N.

The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning for the area through 5 p.m. Monday.

This means that critical fire weather conditions are expected due to a combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and dry fuels.
