Prime Minister of Israel Binyamin Netanyahu has lashed out against the media several times the last several days, in response to their coverage of the spreading protests.

“In the name of democracy, I see an attempt to trample democracy,“No one is restricting the protests,” he said. “The opposite is true. We are helping them. There are coronavirus restrictions that are not being enforced. No one is restricting them or trying to restrict them.”

“The protests are being fueled especially by the media, who have enlisted themselves [to the protests] in a manner the likes of which I cannot remember,” Netanyahu said.

“I reject the one-sided attitude of the majority of the media,” he said. “They are not reporting on the protests but are participating in them and fueling them. This is not just media that has got onboard [with the protests]; it is enlisting people to the protests.”

“They are fueling the protests, which are violent, which no one is speaking out against,” Netanyahu said.

“When there is wild incitement without restraint, including daily calls to murder the prime minister and his family, the media ignores it, and the politicians are silent,” Netanyahu said, adding that the situation would be very different if similar calls were made against the president. There has never been such a distorted mobilization [of the media],” he said. “I would have said Soviet [media mobilization], but its already North Korean in manner.”

On Friday Israel National News reported:

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Thursday criticized Channel 12 and accused the television network of covering up incitement to assassinate the Prime Minister by the far left.

“It is unfortunate that in the midst of the coronavirus crisis, and precisely on this day on which history has taught us that our strength is in our unity, Channel 12 is choosing to continue on a path of division and Fake News,” Netanyahu wrote on Facebook.

Channel 12 is covering up the incitement to assassinate the Prime Minister by the far left, and tries to attach to him fake responsibility for the violence at left-wing demonstrations. Yesterday Channel 12 News that the Prime Minister is behind a group of thugs who attacked protesters in Tel Aviv. The lie was exposed today when it became clear that this was a brawl between rival soccer fans.”

“Today they added a new plot, alleging that the Prime Minister is behind a post calling for the assassination of the Prime Minister. We demand that the cyber unit of the police immediately reveal who is behind this post. This lie, too, will soon become clear.”

Netanyahu continued, “Anyone who covers up the incitement to murder the Prime Minister and his family is an accomplice to the incitement. Channel 12 is doing all this to hide the dangerous incitement against the Prime Minister. Share the truth.”
