Outdoor adventure or entertainment? Shopping or tours? No need to choose just one activity, you deserve to experience them all! With the four-day itinerary suggestions below, experience Pocono happenings this upcoming holiday weekend.
FRIDAY: Explore the sights and sounds of Jim Thorpe
Morning: Enjoy this guided tour throughout picturesque Jim Thorpe or countryside in the Pocono Mountains; go solo or as a pair! Tour Jim Thorpe and its surrounding areas in a vintage motorcycle sidecar with Jim Thorpe Sidecar Tourz.
Afternoon: Ride the rails during a train excursion. The Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway is back in town, and running trips Fridays through Sundays until September 27, 2020; the train will also be running Monday, September 7. You can also experience an authentic coal mine as you descend 160-feet below ground while touring No. 9 Mine & Museum.
Head to Roadies Restaurant and Bar at Penn’s Peak for lunch! Grab a bite to eat with a spectacular view of the Lehigh Gorge. Roadies offers both indoor and outdoor dining as well as takeout food and beverages.
Evening: Step back in time during a walking tour of the town. With roots dating back to 1816, Jim Thorpe has remained a historical destination for centuries. Take a self-guided tour throughout the streets with Jim Thorpe Walking Tours and enjoy sightseeing, shopping and culture.
Choose from a wide variety of places to stay in Jim Thorpe like Kelly Suites on Broadway or Times House. While downtown, you can check out eateries like the Broadway Grille & Pub and Molly Maguires Pub and Steakhouse.
SATURDAY: Journey through the heart of the Poconos
Morning: Start your day off with some high-flying adventure! Visit an adventure park for some aerial action. Test your skills with a treetop ropes course, zip lines and rock climbing. Find your next thrill at Adventure Center at Skytop Lodge, Camelback Mountain Adventures, Gorilla Grove Treetop Adventures or Pocono TreeVentures.
Afternoon: Spend the day canoeing or kayaking on the Delaware River. Adventure Sports, Chamberlain Canoes and Edge of the Woods Outfitters all service guided trips down the river. Choose from a variety of day rentals, including tubing and rafting, and set out for a calming ride on the river; pets welcome!
After an adventure-packed day, visit nearby restaurants for some food. The Gem and Keystone™ Brewpub, Joe Bosco Authentic Smokehouse BBQ and Zoe’s Ice Cream Emporium are close to the river outfitters, so you don’t have to travel far to refuel.
Evening: The putt-putt is calling, and who doesn’t love a round of miniature golf? Play and enjoy fresh air with family and friends at the Casino Theatre Entertainment Center.
Visit downtown Stroudsburg to explore local shops and restaurants like Dunkelberger’s Sports Outfitter and Siamsa Irish Pub. You can even stay downtown at The Penn Stroud or Hampton Inn.
SUNDAY: Experience Milford and Lake Wallenpaupack
Morning: Enjoy the fresh mountain air on a morning hike. 126 hiking trails totaling over 261 miles are spread throughout the region! Pocono Environmental Education Center and Bushkill Falls feature waterfalls on their hikes. Remember to visit responsibly and take your trash with you while exploring outdoors; please don’t litter.
Afternoon: See living history of the area while visiting the 100-acre estate of America’s first Chief Forester at Grey Towers National Historic Landmark. Take a self-guided tour of the grounds, which are available year-round from sunrise to sunset.
Getting hungry yet? While in Milford, drive through downtown to satisfy your appetite at Bar Louis at the Hotel Fauchere or travel to Lake Wallenpaupack for lunch at The Boat House Restaurant, The Dock on Wallenpaupack or Gresham’s Chophouse.
Evening: Stopover at Lake Wallenpaupack to play with water toys! Wallenpaupack Scenic Boat Tour & Boat Rentals and Pine Crest Marina offer pontoon boat, kayak and paddleboard rentals throughout the day. Be sure to check their websites for direct hours and rates; reservations for some activities are required.

MONDAY: Get out in Hawley and Honesdale
Morning: Indulge in farm-to-table dining in the Pocono Mountains. Whether growing their own herbs or resourcing local farms, our farm-to-table restaurants are serving up meals committed to sustainability. Fresh ingredients star in signature dishes at The Settlers Inn and Cocoon Coffeehouse & Bakery. Come dine inside or outside, and try their foods for yourself!
Afternoon: Discover local shops and galleries throughout the northern area of the region. Hawley Silk Mill, Lake Art, Penny Lane Candies & Candles and Pieces of the Past hold unique gifts, treats and vintage treasures.
Evening: Bring your own wheels and experience a sunset biking session at Prompton State Park. Here, the trails are open until dusk and 26 miles of varying terrain can be peddled. This park’s paths are a little more on the challenging side, so be sure to wear your helmet and look out for others during the evening adventure.
Don’t leave without ice cream! Stop by Gresham’s Ice Cream Shoppe for a sweet treat before heading home.
