(Long Pond, PA) – History will be made this weekend as Pocono Raceway becomes the first venue to hold two NASCAR Cup Series events on back-to-back days. The historic event is part of the action-packed 2020 NASCAR Doubleheader Weekend featuring five races in three days, hosted at Pocono Raceway from June 26-28. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this may be Pennsylvania’s only major sporting event still scheduled this summer.
Pocono Raceway is also experiencing another first: the inability to host fans on-property during the races, in accordance with Governor Tom Wolf’s guidance on professional sporting events. The Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau and Pocono Raceway encourage fans to watch the races live from home or visit a local establishment showing the races on TV.
“Now that the entire Pocono region is in the ‘green’ phase of the statewide reopening plan, we must support our local economy while continuing to follow public health and social distancing guidelines,” said Chris Barrett, Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau President/CEO. “Although we’re pleased the show will go on, we will miss the thousands of fans that typically visit and sustain our area on race weekends.”
“For the first time in Pocono Raceway history, we will host a major motorsport event without our incredible fans,” said Ben May, Pocono Raceway President. “Our Raceway family will miss the fans’ passion, laughs, cheers and smiles as the green flag drops in the Pocono Mountains. We encourage fans to enjoy the live race broadcasts on FOX and FS1.”
The three-day race weekend kicks off with the ARCA Menards Series General Tire #AnywhereIsPossible 200, live on FS1, at 6:00 p.m. ET on Friday, June 26. The Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series Pocono Organics 150 to benefit Farm Aid race will be broadcast on FS1 starting at 12:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, June 27. It will be followed by the NASCAR Cup Series Pocono Organics 325 in partnership with Rodale Institute, airing live on FOX, starting at 3:30 p.m. ET Saturday. The NASCAR Xfinity Series Pocono Green 225 Recycled by J.P. Mascaro & Sons race will broadcast live on FS1 at 12:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, June 28. The final race of the doubleheader weekend will be the NASCAR Cup Series Pocono 350, live on FS1, starting at 4:00 p.m. ET Sunday.
