The 49-story office tower at One Dag Hammarskjöld Plaza, is poised to be sold for almost $600 million, according to The New York Post.

Rockpoint Group, a Boston-based company that owns Starrett City, is in contract to buy the tower, according to sources who spoke to The New York Post.

The New York Post describes the tower as being black and in the shape of an L-shaped. The odd name for the plaza on which it sits is located in Midtown East.

The building that was designed by Emery Roth and developed by Lawrence Ruben in 1974 had never been sold before, The New York Post reports.

Richard Ruben, chief executive of the Ruben Cos., sold 1700 Broadway to Rockpoint for $453.million back in the winter.

It’s unusual for Ruben Cos. to sell off any of its wholly owned properties, which includes all types of real estate throughout the Northeast in major cities.

Founded almost fifty years ago, Ruben Companies and its affiliates are involved in the development and marketing of internet business applications, according to its own profile.

The website goes on to say the companies do work in New York, Washington, and Boston, where it “developed, and continues to own and manage, over five million square feet of prestigious office space and over 1,000 luxury residential apartments. Madison Avenue in New York, Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington DC and Washington Street in Boston are just a few of the prized addresses represented in its portfolio. Ruben Companies’ tenants include major domestic and international corporations, leading financial institutions, prominent service firms and prestigious retailers. Its latest development plans include two million square feet of residential and commercial projects in the emerging Capitol Riverfront area of Washington DC.”

Ruben Companies also works with internet business applications. The site said that “in 2000, Ruben Companies created Workspeed, whose web-based workflow applications are used in over 500 million square feet of commercial real estate throughout the country. In 2011, Ruben Companies launched skedge.me, an internet-based scheduling application that enables online scheduling for businesses of all sizes.”

One Dag Hammarskjöld Plaza has the privilege of being right near the United Nations complex, and it even helps a number of countries and helps the UN with its pension fund.

The United Nations website describes itself as being “founded in 1945, after the Second World War, by 51 countries committed to maintaining international peace and security, developing friendly relations among nations and promoting social progress, better living standards and human rights.”

The United Nations Headquarters can be found by the East River and Queens Midtown Tunnel in Manhattan. It’s meant to be a symbol of peace and a beacon of hope. Delegates from 193 Member States use the United Nations as a place to meet and discuss issues of peace, justice, and the well-being of the world’s people.

Each year, approximately 1 million visitors from around the world come to visit the United Nations, according to its website.
