On Oct. 26, Moms on a Mitzvah (MOM) will be hosting their fourth annual Challah Bake in memory of Mimi Chammah A”H. This exciting event will take place at The Center on Ocean Parkway in Brooklyn, NY. The bake is organized in conjunction with The Shabbat Project, an organization that started in South Africa whose main goal is to get Jews from around the world to celebrate, observe, and enjoy one complete Shabbat.

The challah bake will be happening on the same date in different areas worldwide including Mexico, Brazil, Panama, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and lots more. The event in Brooklyn NY will feature MC Flatbush Girl as well as demos by @myorganicdairy and @challahart on the subject of challah braiding. Lunch by Green Label NY can also be purchased at the event.

We cannot discuss this wonderful event without acknowledging the amazing women involved in organizing it each year for our community. Moms on a Mitzvah is an incredible organization whose mission is to help the Jewish people as well as people in general who need them. This may seem like a broad goal for a group to have, and that’s because it is.

The hesed group takes on such a variety of feats both large and small, such as aiding in natural disaster relief, organizing counter terrorism events, as well as covering smaller imperative things like basic hesed needs that our community might require. The counter terrorist events can cover such topics as educating people about the IDF and how it’s one of the most if not THE most moral army in the world, and also the topic anti-semitism. According to MOM, education is key.

Another incredible project that the Moms on a Mitzvah take part in is firemen and policemen appreciation day. Once a year, MOMs go around to local precincts and firehouses and thank all the people that protect us. They bring goodies like donuts on Hanukkah and thank you notes from Jewish schools for all those who volunteer their lives for the greater good. This is MOM’s special way of showing gratitude from the entire Jewish community to the men and women who keep us safe.

Ten women make up the core Moms on a Mitzvah team, but they bring on more people for specific events and projects.

For their annual challah bake, about 40 volunteers join on to help organize and prepare for this special day of unity. According to Argalgi Sadacka, the founder and president of MOMs, the challah bake event is all about Jewish women coming together and uniting for a common purpose.

The challah bake will be from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM. Specific attention will be on the braiding of the challah, as @challahart will be demonstrating for the crowd. Attendees will also take home goodies in a swag bag.

“I want to excite woman about challah and engage them in challah braiding which is the fun aspect of challah baking,” said Linda.

Pre-registration is required and the seating is limited so make sure to book your spot as soon as possible by calling (718) 627-4300. If anyone would like to volunteer for Moms on a Mitzvah, you can direct message them on Instagram or email [email protected]  subject: Volunteer.
