It was announced last week that Gary Rodney, the head of the Housing Development Corp., will be leaving his position in September. He was in charge of the city’s affordable-housing agency for two years. The Housing Development Corp. has the distinction of being the biggest municipal financial backer of affordable housing in the United States.

Many people respect the agency for its smooth operation and lack of bureaucratic red tape in lending up to $3.9 billion and building or preserving up to 25,000 new housing units since the mayor was sworn into office. Gary Rodney’s accomplishments were listed by Crain Magazine in its latest edition of 40 Under 40.

During his tenure as head of the HDC, he made alterations to the way it was operated in order to increase the amount of affordable housing available to New Yorkers. Upon his leaving the position, he intends to become a part of City Real Estate Advisors. They are a private company that link developers in affordable housing with equity and tax credits.

Mayor Bill de Blasio complimented the work that Gary Rodney had done by saying, “

“We are immensely grateful for Gary Rodney’s incredible contributions to the Housing Development Corp., and the historic levels of affordable housing he helped to spur.”

He is being replaced by Eric Enderlin, who is the current deputy commissioner at the Department of Housing Preservation and Development, pending a vote on August 22nd by the board of the Housing Development Corporation. About Mr. Enderlin, the mayor had this to say, “Our affordable housing machine has never been stronger in our city’s history. We welcome Eric Enderlin, whose wealth of experience in Housing Preservation and Development will take us to new heights in affordable housing in New York City. I am confident that Eric will promote the progressive values of our City and work to make it a place where anyone can thrive.”

Eric Enderlin himself expressed anticipation regarding his pending new position as head of HDC under the mayor:

“I am delighted to be nominated to this important position, and have the opportunity to build on the critical gains that have resulted in record-breaking production of affordable housing in New York City over the past two years. HDC is the financial backbone of the mayor’s plan to build and protect an ambitious 200,000 affordable homes in 10 years. Gary Rodney brought know-how and a roll-up-your sleeves attitude. I cannot wait to carry forward the work with this incredible team.”
