Yeshiva University’s Stern College for Women is located at 245 Lexington Avenue, Manhattan.

Yeshiva University’s Stern College for Women has recently become a participating school in the YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund (FSF) Community, a national nonprofit association dedicated to promoting education of the fashion arts and business through internships, networking events, scholarships and mentorship opportunities.

The move will connect Stern to more than 200 members schools and companies, including major retail chains like JCPenney and Macy’s and designers like Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. It will also make students interested in fashion at Stern eligible for scholarships the organization distributes, including 100 annual awards of $5,000 and eight Geoffrey Beene National Scholarships of $10,000 or more.

The program will help students network and secure internships in an array of areas within fashion, from buying and design to product development and marketing, at well-known designers and retailers. Students will also have the option to be mentored by FSF board members.

“For many years we have had a very successful relationship with the Fashion Institute of Technology for those students wishing to take specialized coursework to prepare for careers in the fashion industry,” said Dr. Karen Bacon, Mordechai D. Katz and Dr. Monique C. Katz Dean of Undergraduate Faculty of Arts and Sciences at YU. “Being part of the YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund Community is recognition of the quality of our program. This association will undoubtedly encourage our students to reach even higher as they compete for valuable scholarship and incomparable internship opportunities.”

“This program is an incredible opportunity for Stern students because it will expose those who are interested to leaders of the fashion community in both business and design and will provide them a tremendous amount of access to opportunities they wouldn’t otherwise have,” said Rebecca Shmidman, a 2003 Stern graduate who majored in fine arts and now serves on the Stern Board. Shmidman benefited from an internship in the fashion world while at Stern and saw a connection between Stern and FSF as a natural fit: “Stern has many talented students in the arts and other fields who are very creative, some of whom are already participating in Stern’s joint program with FIT. These scholarships will make it more possible for our students to pursue work in this field.”
