Getting drafted by a professional football team is a dream come true for many. It’s even a miracle for some to come as close to just sniffing the draft. The event is dramatically televised and publicized. It’s the beginning of a long and successful career for many.

In the 2015 NFL draft, a Jewish New York native had his dream come true. His name is Alexander Ali Marpet, he is 6’4, weighs 307 pounds, and is from Hasting-on-Hudson, NY. Marpet had his dream come true when his name was called by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2nd round, with the 61st overall pick.

Marpet was an offensive guard at Hobart University. Marpet quickly made NFL history by becoming the highest pick to come out of a division III program.

Marpet attended Hobart and William Smith Colleges from 2011 to 2014. A four-year member of the Hobart football team, he was a three-year starter at left tackle, helping the Statesmen win four consecutive Liberty League Championships. Marpet earned three consecutive first team All-Liberty League awards and shared the Liberty League Offensive Player of the Year Award in 2014, the first offensive lineman to win that award.

He played his entire senior season without allowing a sack and was named to the 2014 AFCA All-American team, the 2014 D3football.com All-America Team, and the AP Little All-America second team. Marpet and the Statesmen made four consecutive NCAA Division III Football Championship appearances, advancing to the quarterfinal rounds in 2012 and 2014. During his career, Hobart posted a record of 41-5, losing just one regular season game.

The Tampa bay Buccaneers are coming off one of their worst seasons in the history of the franchise. The Bucs drafted elite quarterback Jameis Winston of Florida State hoping he can be the new back bone of the franchise and elevate them to success. Second year head Coach Lovie Smith knows very well he is on the hot seat if things aren’t turned around really quickly. Smith put up an ugly 2-14 record in his first season in Tampa bay after having years of success coaching the Chicago Bears.
