Breitbart reported, Voight has spoken in favor of Israel at public rallies and has been critical of the Obama administration’s policy in the current conflict. His letter was a response to the trio, who joined other Spanish entertainers in denouncing Israel in a manifesto, according to Europa Press. They call Israeli attacks in Gaza that have killed civilians, including children, “genocide.”
“Gaza is living through horror these days, besieged and attacked by land, sea and air,” they wrote, according to an English translation of the letter. “Palestinians’ homes are being destroyed, they are being denied water, electricity [and] free movement to their hospitals, schools and fields while the international community does nothing.”
They blame the current violence on Israel continuing “to advance into and invade the Palestinian territories instead of returning to the 1967 borders.”
In Voight’s response he said that the stars are “ignorant” of Israel’s birth, citing how the modern nation of Israel was created in 1948 and its Arab neighbors attacked it in 1967 and 1973.
Israel “voluntarily returned the Sinai Peninsula to Egypt in return for peace, and gave the Palestinians all of Gaza as a peace gesture,” Voight wrote. “What was the response? The Palestinians elected Hamas, a terrorist organization, and they immediately began firing thousands of rockets into Israel.”
Voight reminded the stars that the current conflict started by Hamas kidnapping and murdering three Israeli teenagers who were on their way home from school.
Voight wrote, “You should hang your heads in shame. You should all come forth with deep regrets for what you did, and ask forgiveness from the suffering people in Israel.”
