Ablow has been dealt to New York’s Satmar Hasidic community, when Governor Andrew Cuomo’s administration put an end to the bidding process on then late-19th-century National Guard armory in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The Satmar Hasidic Community hoped to purchase the massive 165,000-square-foot property and turn it into a space for the community, such as a school, retail space or housing complex.

The New York Daily News reported that New York State has seen an increase in filming activity at the National Guard outpost, since last April’s announcement that it would solicit a request for proposals. The state earned $667,609 since March 2012 in fees for hosting community events and filming movies such as “Noah” and “The Amazing Spider-Man 2″.

Empire State Development spokesperson Jason Conwall told the Daily News, “The Marcy Armory has continued to stimulate economic activity and generate revenue for the state, while also serving a beneficial role to the community by making space available for a variety of rental uses.”

The Hasidics had planned to utilize the space to better accommodate the more than 30,000 children in the community who are currently enrolled in private schools in the area. The state’s decision has put a road block in the way of these aspirations for the neighborhood.
