Henry Timms, newly named executive director at 92nd Street Y, recently announced the appointment of Rabbi Peter J. Rubinstein as Director of Jewish Community and the Bronfman Center for Jewish Life at 92Y. Rabbi Rubinstein, currently Senior Rabbi at Central Synagogue, will join 92Y in September. Rabbi Rubinstein will oversee 92Y’s Jewish programming and serve as a spiritual leader for the organization.
“We are honored to welcome Peter Rubinstein to 92Y,” said Stuart J. Ellman, President of the 92Y Board of Directors. “Peter has been at the vanguard of making certain that Jewish tradition remains relevant and vibrant for our modern world and for generations to come. His lifelong commitment to teaching and learning, his steadfast leadership in the Jewish community, his work on defining the Rabbi’s role for the 21st century and his dedication to interfaith dialogue speak eloquently to 92Y’s Jewish identity. I am so pleased that Peter will be joining Henry and his extraordinary team. I know that with Henry’s exceptional leadership and Peter nurturing 92Y’s Jewish spirit, they will inspire us to always aim higher, deepening and expanding our service to the entire community.”
“As a visionary congregational rabbi, Peter has dedicated himself to the Jewish communal world. He is a thought leader who brings tremendous experience, wisdom and enthusiasm to the task of strengthening Jewish life and today’s Jewish community,” said Matthew Bronfman, 92Y Board Member and past President, Chair of the Bronfman Center for Jewish Life and Chair of the Program Committee. “We want to welcome Peter to the 92Y family, and we look forward to the myriad ways in which our community will benefit from his considerable knowledge and expertise.”
“We are thrilled to have Peter join our team,” said Timms. “His remarkable energy, enthusiasm and experience will bring so much to 92Y and our community. We are looking forward to him taking our work to new heights.”
“I’m excited to begin my next chapter with 92Y, a historic institution with an outstanding reputation in New York City and beyond,” said Rabbi Rubinstein. “I’m looking forward to working with Henry and the whole team at 92Y in maximizing the potential of 92Y as a thought leader and convener of Jewish community in the city.”
