“The time has come when we must realize that the traditional Yon HaShoah observance must be stepped up,” said Nessim Tammam, the coordinator of the event. “We are living in a world that is becoming increasing dangerous for Jews and the existential siege on Israel is growing at an alarming rate,” he added.
“Iran’s nuclear program got the green light from the Obama administration when the Geneva accord was signed months ago and the easing of sanctions is particularly frightening considering the fact that Iran’s centrifuges are spinning fast than ever, “ declared Lynne Bursky-Tammam, also a coordinator of the annual Yom HaShoah rally.
In an interview with the Jewish Voice, Mr. Tammam said, “It is imperative that each of us become personally involved in raising our voices and using our time and resources to prevent the pernicious schemes of Iran from coming to fruition. Rather than waiting for a synagogue or various individuals to organize an event, everyone who cares about the survival of the Jewish people, the land of Israel and all of Western civilization as we know it must step forward and vigorously protest the rogue regime in Iran.”
With a palpable fervor in her voice Mrs. Tammam said, “Right now, we have the opportunity to lobby our elected officials in Washington and on the local level to the dangers of a nuclear powered Iran.” She added that 59 senators have endorsed the Nuclear Weapons Free Iran Act that was initiated through bipartisan support by both Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Senator Mark Kirk (R-IL). “We need only one more senator to add their name to this crucial bill and we will see its passage, said Mrs. Tammam.
