With the clock ticking closer to the April 29th diplomatic deadline set by the White House for substantive progress in the Israeli-Palestinian peace talks aimed at creating a “two-state solution”,  this time around President Obama met with PA President Mahmoud Abbas in the oval office. Several weeks ago, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu showed up 1600 Pennsylvania Aveune to have the proverbial “screws tightened” on him by Obama while he was in town to address the annual AIPAC policy conference.

Netanyahu declared that the sole sticking point in inking a permanent deal with the PA is the issue of Palestinian recognition of Israel as the one and only Jewish state. When they met face to face at the White House, Netanyahu told Obama that this request for public acknowledgement was the very least that could be expected from their Palestinian neighbors, considering the fact that Israel was on the brink of cutting out its heartland in the name of what some call  actual “peace.”

Mincing words and equivocating as is the custom of the duplicitous Abbas was the order of the day. Being fully cognizant that Obama would nail him on the recognition issue, Abbas came in well prepared and claimed that his predecessor;  namely Yassir Arafat, had previously recognized Israel as a Jewish state. One does need to be a Rhodes scholar to figure out that some heavy duty political posturing is going on here.

But, yet and still, this is not the real issue. The issue at the core of this ongoing debate is if the Jews both inside and outside of Israel actually believe Israel is a Jewish state. With all the incessant and vicious propaganda being hurled at American Jews (especially Jewish college students) by the ever expanding ranks of anti-Israel bashers from the left-liberal-academic sphere and the swelling ranks of the BDSers, it is clear that the concept of an exclusively Jewish state has become anathema. It is interpreted by the archetypical leftists as a “racist” phenomenon and once that buzzword is injected into the mix, we know how that pushes the collective invisible buttons of Jews. Let’s face it. The average secular, well educated Jew, for the most part, has wrangled with his conscience on a regular basis on whether Israel really is a “racist” state because it is defined as a Jewish state; replete with loads of Jewish religious and cultural trappings.

Even Israeli members of the Knesset have protested the insistence that Israel be recognized as a Jewish state by the Palestinians in order to attain this elusive “peace” that they dream of. Even these third or fourth generation Jews don’t really believe that the Jews have title to this land as their eternal  homeland.  They would prefer to be “loved” by their liberal friends and if in exchange, Israel has to be brought as a sacrifice on the altar of a false and bogus peace, then so be it.  Time for a collective reality check, folks. If we don’t believe that Israel is a Jewish state granted to us by the G-d of Israel, then let’s jump ship now.
