Eighteen Israelis, which is an increase from the 17 who made the list last year, were among the 1,645 billionaires, a number that is 219 more than in 2013, according to Reuters.
Among the 268 newcomers to the list — such as Sheryl Sandberg of Facebook, Jan Koum of WhatsApp (which Facebook recently puchased) and sisters Aerin and Jane Lauder, heirs to the Estee Lauder cosmetics firm and daughters of World Jewish Congress President Ronald Lauder — are Jewish.
Microsoft’s Bill Gates made it to the top of the list this year with a fortune listed at $76 billion.
And former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg placed 16th on the list with a net worth of $33 billion, built mainly through his namesake media company.
A record 1,645 billionaires with a total net worth of $6.4 trillion made Forbes’ list, up from 1,426 last year, Reuters reported.
Just over 10 percent were female, with 172 women, which is an increase over last year’s 138 women making the list.
