Israeli president Shimon Peres will receive an extra special birthday present when he turns 90 this June, when legendary singer Barbra Streisand will perform to mark the occasion at a conference led by Peres in Israel. The Associated Press reports that an unnamed Israeli official revealed that Streisand, who has released more top 10 albums than any other female recording artist, would come to Israel when Peres is hosting a yearly conference on the weekend of June 18-20. Streisand will additionally play two shows in Tel Aviv on June 15 and 16, her first shows ever in Israel. Streisand is best known for such songs as “People” and “The Way We Were,” and is one of a small list of performers to have earned a Emmy, Oscar, Tony, and Grammy award.
Peres is entering his tenth decade on August 2 and has been a long-time statesman in the Israeli political scene, participating in the field for over half of his life. He first entered the Knesset in 1959, and since, has been twice Prime Minister, as well as being Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Defense, Minister of Finance, and Minister of Transportation. Currently, Shimon Peres is President of Israel, a post he has occupied since 2007. Peres told the press that Streisand was due to perform in Israel five years ago, but the concert never happened.
